I was gonna say.... It's down the hall on the right. Oh yeah you might have to put the seat down.

I'm still undecided on what paint scheme I'm gonna go.

I have a basic idea but no specific design layout yet..

was thinking about actually putting up a picture thread for Stella today.. that would give some hints.

I've got some really fun (in my opinion) plans for mine. It's really just a rough idea with a few gimmicks that I can clean up over time. Being fiberglass, there will be nothing to keep me from updating it as I see fit!

I'll talk with them again soon just to keep us on their mind as they work through their big order and I'll try again to stir up some results.

Any word as of yet?

Still trying to figure out a scheme of sorts. I think I've got it down to a couple.

I called the company and was not too pleasant. They're working on the last molds of their big contract, but I said they need to prove that they're committed to our order. I've sent them a list of all of us with the hardtop version, since they already have that mold made, and he hopes to be able to make the sunroof mold by the end of the month. I'm expecting a response from him tomorrow.

le sigh!

Finally some good news to report!

I talked with the shop again today (plus a few other times in the last few days) and they're ready for the money. I'm sending a certified check to them tomorrow for the hardtop version that they can get made now, and as soon as those are done and they finish the last few molds they've been working on, which is supposed to happen in a couple of weeks, they'll make our sunroof mold. At that time I'll send the money for the sunroof headliners and those will get fabricated. The shop says that the sunroof model should start just about the time they finish the hardtop versions. I hate to delay any of you any more, but I had to find a way to kick start this, and I think that having something built by them is the best way to do that.

I'm going to stay on top of this and make sure they keep up on our work and our money.

I'm sorry this has taken so long. I have honestly been staying on this and trying to get things moving. Thank you everybody for your patience, and I'm glad to see this finally coming to fruition.

Installation would require removal of the original headliner, which seems to mainly consist of removing the trim pieces around the roofline. Yeah, I think things are going to sound a bit different both in the rain and just with music playing. But I hear it's not significant. I guess I'll find out for sure soon enough.

I've actually not seen pictures of the black gel coat. I think it'll be a satin finish, but I'm going to be painting mine, so as long as it covers nicely I'm good.

And you're absolutely right about the 98 tops. The hardtop version is made for a '98 without all the cutouts, so it'd be easier for you than some of the rest of us!

I'm not 100% sure that I can get another hardtop added to the order, but I'll talk with the shop on Tue to get that for sure. I'll let you know!

To remove the headliner, you don't actually have to remove the pillar trim pieces, but rather just loosen them at the top. This is a very good thing, because if you did have to remove them (particularly the B-pillar) you'd have to more or less strip the whole back half of the car.

On the '98, the following is required:
  • Remove sun visors
  • Remove sun visor lights
  • Remove rear-view mirror
  • Remove rear trim
  • Remove grab handles (on B-pillar)
  • Loosen door gaskets
  • Loosen top of A, B, and C pillar trims
  • Loosen headliner (maneuver it down from the roof)
  • Disconnect clock
  • Remove headliner from car

Incidentally, the reason I know this is that I did a DIY re-upholstering job already (following a HOWTO posted on this site). It's harder than it looks, which is why I'm in this group buy.

When you talk to the shop Tuesday, see if you can wrangle an estimated completion/shipping date for the hardtop ones from them. And good luck with it!

I did talk with the shop, and fabrication has started! He didn't have a firm date for shipping to start, but it should be first of next week, I'd think. I'll see if I can get that any better.

Sweet!

Sounds like I've got to get the interior plans in motion.

I'll keep an eye out here and at work once we get word!

Talked with the shop yesterday and the hard tops are supposed to be shipping out either Friday or Monday. I'm going to call on Friday to get word on that. I'm sorry I don't have more information than that, but I think what I'm hearing is much better than we've had in the last months.

SWEET! It starts.

I've got about 80% of my interior pieces together, so once this arrives I'll be that much closer.

Thanks for the heads up Jacob!
