My daughter just got her first car, a '99 VW Beetle. I am trying to help her fix some issues with it, the first being the driver's side door handle come off (the one on the inside, not the one used to open the door) when you close the door.
I was hoping maybe I could find some parts from a salvage company but haven't had much luck. I know most new car parts are very expensive. We live in Phoenix, Arizona and if anyone has suggestions on where to get the parts to fix this and/or a mechanic they'd recommend we'd love to hear from you. Thanks, Roadog |

Hi Roadog,
I just had this problem with my wife's 2000 beetle. I was able to do a $3 repair that looks a little 'industrial chic' but solidly holds the handle in place. Behind the handle trim plate are two 6mm screws that hold the door panel in place which I removed. I went to the hardware store and got two 6mm bolts about 2 1/2 " long along with two nuts and two fender washers ( the very wide washers). I drilled holes in the thin top trim plate placed bolts and fender washers through the outer face and ran nuts down about 3/8" to replicate the old bolts that were in there. Then I put everything together and tightened the entire assembly to the original threaded holes in the metal behind the door panel. The fender washers keep the bolts from breaking the thin plastic. This is rock solid and while not cosmetically perfect it doesn't look too bad. Any questions let me know. Let me know if you try it. Luke Quote:
