Hello everyone,
I'm sorry I haven't been around much lately. There was an important family matter that came up and it sort of temporarily changed my life style a little bit. Nothing serious, just important. I haven't had much time for anything else.
Thing is, it's too time consuming to make these mounts plus the prep and paint work to get it ready for shipping but, I'll try to have some ready in a couple of weeks time.
Once again I apologize for not being present on these forums lately. This is a great community and has been a pleasure to be a part of. (It will be One Year for me next month.)
Also, there has been an overwhelming response to my custom GPS Mount and I'm glad that you all are enjoying it. Most of all, I thank you for your interest!
Thanks and Best Regards,
MiG

hey mike,

finally got a chance this weekend to use the mount with the Nuvi 205W...

works very well---no interference with the wiper switch.

Hello all,
I received an e-mail from someone that purchased a GPS Mount from me and states that the mount has become bent or warped over time. I could not understand how this could happen because the resin I use for this product is A+

After looking at the pictures of the mount I could then understand how this happened. The mount is positioned directly in front of the left side centre heater vent. This vent should be disabled not only to protect the mount from bending or warping but, to avoid heat from damaging the GPS device itself!

Looking at the pictures I could see that the weight of the GPS device must have become too heavy as the mount became heated by the working vent causing it to soften and sag.

Please, those of you that have purchased the mount from me .... Please, Please, Please, disable this heater vent!!
My goal was to create something good and useful. The last thing I wanted to do is create something that would become a melting blob of plastic.

mike, just thinking out loud here...don't know who had the warping problem, or where they're located.

i'd think the greater heat/warping risk would be from ambient heat inside the car after it's parked outside in sunlight for a while...on a summer day, it'll go a lot higher than that heater vent will ever get...well over 100.

so, i'd recommend pulling the mount from the bud vase when you're not using it.

other thoughts?

A combination of the heat from the unit and the weight of the gps unit probably accelerated the damage.

Have you thought about redesigning this so the arm goes up and contours to the dash then straight up so when the GPS is mounted it sits above the vent?
It covering the vent was the only flaw I saw.
Can you also make them for the Magellans?
Great product btw.

There is always a better way I guess. It's just finding the one right way that can satisfy everyone. I just wanted to keep it not much bigger than the bud vase. Having it too long and or twisted to avoid every component of the dashboard would have made it to complicated to mold and more expensive to make.

Yeah I think your right about that!

I don't even use my GPS all the time anyways. I mean, I know the city of Toronto very well and unless I was traveling somewhere far, it really isn't needed. In fact I use my Motorokr Bluetooth on the mount instead

I really like this idea. it's great. Here's a thought though, couldn't you just make them a bit taller? To mostly avoid the vents and easier to see? And I don't know if this has been asked, but for those who own these, does it interfer with your driving? I have things in my vase that always seem to get in the way when I'm turning. Does this do that? Otherwise, great product and I might consider getting one, when I get a flat screen GPS! lol
