I broke my serpentine belt tensioner while changing my alternator. I need to buy a new one. Have any of you bought from this site? You trust them? I looked on ebay and the same part is going for 45$ average higher than this site, so it's kinda strange they have it for so low.

Thanks!!!

VW $14 New Serpentine Belt Tensioner 98-05 Beetle, 99-07 Golf, 99-06 Jetta. Fits 1.8T and 2.0 Engines. Volkswagen

Doesn't mention what brand it is...Made in China?

I would stay away from no-name parts.

A year ago I bought a hose for my older VW and didn't get it,so I had to call my credit card to have the money back.Bought door handles-cheap,but poor quality;brass bearing for IP-1mm smaller and I had to sand it by hand.
My suggestion is: Stay away from them!

Actually, I ended up fixing the tensioner myself without buying a new one. I just used 5/16" bolt and lock nuts and two fender washers to hold it together. This is actually probably a more reliable fix than how it was manufactured. I then sprayed some oil in there and it moves quite well. I'll install it on the beetle this evening, attached are some pics I snapped.

Included is the diagram I drew out for the serpentine belt in case anybody needs this.

That is one of PROTHE's web sites. He sells inexpensive chinese copy parts. My used 98 NB TDI came with a prothe injection pump and it grenaded internally in less than 1000 miles. People have taken major gambles buying critical engine parts from him to find their vehicles inoperable. Do yourself a favor and buy your VW parts from a reputable site, as previously recommended.
