I'm sorry, I've been caught up with the holidays & all and I kind of put this issue on the back burner. Actually, first of all, I'm gonna have to re-nig on my markers as it looks like I'll be keeping them after all, sorry about that. The crystal clear (indicators) that I got from the eBay UK seller arrived and I don't even know what he was thinking (and I DID inquire about the specifics more than once) but the lights he sent, two pair, were like none I've ever seen on a NB. They were about 3" long and 1.5" wide and turned out to be turn signal lights! Also, the pic in the listing was totally deceiving as they looked to be regular marker light size. Needless to say, I returned them and am awaiting my refund. I've had my stock markers blacked out for a while now and have decided I'm gonna keep them as is for now. If in the future I do get the correct clears, and you still need ambers, I'll be sure to let you know they're available. Again, I apologize for not updating you sooner. Hope you have a very Happy New Year!

You guys and your clears! Just as the law requires amber running lights in the front, whether it is a clear bulb behind a amber lens or an amber bulb behind a clear lens, and red running lights in the rear, ditto red bulbs behind clear lens or clear bulbs behind red lenses, the law also requires amber side reflectors (reflectors not lights) in the front and red side reflectors (reflectors not lights) in the rear. THAT is the law!

As regards what I have just stated and to quote someone in a post back up the chain in this thread:
"People need to back up their facts before they start posting misinformation and confusing people."

Well, here it is (all 54 pages)-
http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/cfr_2004/octqtr/49cfr571.108.htm

If someone would like the Canadian Counterpart, I can find and post it also, it's not more lenient, it's more stringent!

Aftermarkets that defeat this are legal to manufacturer and sell, just illegal to use. And it's a great way for law enforcement to legally "profile" you! And blackouts, you don't even want to go there. Somebody rear ends you at night, better have good insurance, because you're going to be found at fault, just as if you had no tail lights. Go figure, headlights so they CAN see you coming from five miles away and tail lights so they CAN'T see you from five feet away!

Don't get me wrong, if you want to spend a gazillion dollars doing mods, I could care less, as long as they don't create a danger for myself and my family, or infringe on our rights.

Why is the concept of laws being there for everyone, not just some, such a difficult thing to accept?

As to the comment about the seperable marker/running light lenses, that came from a post by another Forum moder, who seemed, at least outwardly, to be knowledgable about the subject and claiming to have done it. Sure I can find the thread.

As to the comment from the poster on here about only the tail lights not being bonded and being seperable, just today, another moder, in another thread, claimed that the tail lights are bonded and the lens must be mechanically cut apart, and again claiming knowledge from personal experience, right down to a DIY. Also sure I can find that thread.

So geez, who do you believe? Do we only believe what we want to hear? Does everybody blow smoke up everybody's ass on these Forums, or try to?

Thank you Ralph Nader for watching out for our safety.

In many states, side marker lights aren't required for vehicles under 80" wide. It's one of those catch 22 situations. I can't fail a car in a NY State safety inspection for not having working side marker lights.

You forgot to add "caveat emptor"
Couldn't resist.

As far as the smoke up the hind side, we're comparing apples to oranges. We have Turbo S's and the side markers are different. That mis-advice was for taillights and not side markers as well.
That info was all over the place!
There are many people here that try to quickly post something to sound competent, but in many times give bad advice. (I'm reminded of the TB replacement advice on a different thread)

For hard core technical info I always go the the Vortex, for fun time friendly Beetle lovers, I come here.
It's all a matter of reading and research. You have to read all and digest all and then make your own decisions.

When did anyone ever say to run red lights up front or ambers in the back?
I stated that the shapes are the same and that after-market rear CLEARS for a regular NB with fit in the front of our TS Beetles.

While were at it, care to go off on HIDs, rear spoilers that don't do anything or big turbos?

Hey, I'm really sorry. I've been meaning to get back with you about these lenses sooner but just kept getting too busy. Anyway, if you're contemplating getting clears for your TS, trust me, they're hard to come by and not cheap. The eBay Seller (in Mesa, AZ) that I got my 2 pair from earlier this year has this 1 LAST PAIR available which are $47.95. He ships Fast and for FREE. I had needed 2 pair (front & rear) as my intention was to make them YELLOW, NOT Amber, like all my other lenses. They arrived FAST, turned out great and snapped right in to replace the stocks. If I were you, jump on this ASAP before someone else gets them. Besides, if you change your mind later on I doubt you'd have much trouble making your money back, and then some...Here's the link to the listing

http://www.ebay.com/itm/370494353583?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p398 4.m1423.l2649 I'm sure you won't regret getting them if you've at all been considering it.

Many thanks for your kind reply. The only remaining concern I have is installation. I read somewhere (perhaps on this thread?) where someone mentioned "prying" the old ones out. Now being such an obsessive-compulsive about my car, I wouldn't want to try anything that might disturb the surrounding paint. So, how are the old lenses removed and these installed?

Grab a flat head and shove it in the end with the grove and pop it out.

Yes I'm serious. Behind the lense one side is a hook and the other side is a nipple....thats all that holds this baby in.

Put electric tape over the screw driver shaft to lessen any disturbance to your paint.

Maybe I shouldn't be telling you all this because I am debating getting those lenses as we speak!

Guess what? I'd read that thread too and made a good attempt on my front marker. A nice piece of the corner broke off in the process! Later, it was brought to light by another .org member that what had been described was NOT for our markers after all but a different lense altogether, some rear one I think, and might not have even been on a TS anyway, I can't totally recall but I don't think they were. Trust me, DO NOT ATTEMPT it! I was exceedingly careful in trying to but you can see once you remove the lens that it doesn't even really appear it could be done. They are NOT in 2 pieces that are glued together. Honestly, these on eBay right now are a good deal. They're hard to come by in a set of 2 markers. You can find sets of 4 lenses that consist of 2 front amber/clear (I think they're blinkers) and then 2 of these smaller clears for the rear but you'd only use the rears and be stuck w/the front ones cause they aren't originally for our TS's. And, unless you only wanted clears in the front OR rear, you'd have to buy 2 sets of those 4 lenses, you know? Like I said, I ordered 2 sets for my car and all 4 snapped right in. If you want clears, these are the one's to get. Ask the Seller if he'll be relisting another pair soon...

Yes, Zann is correct. All it takes to remove them is to, carefully, stick a thin flathead in the corner and pry them off. Then just pull it out and unplug it from the connector harness. Plug the new one in at the same spot, put it back in and push firmly into place. Easy, breezy, you're done!

Many thanx you two. I've bought them from this guy on eBay who's located in Mesa, AZ and they were shipped to me by him today, and are on the way. Your guy's advice on how to properly install them was what got me off the dime and movin' on them.
