Red face Wing nut?????

2003 vw vert. I replaced rear passenger brake light......well, don't know how, but I can't find the wing nut that holds the light in place. It's like a big black plastic wing nut.... I can't locate one. Any suggestions?????

First retrace all the steps you took when you took it off. Is it in the space between the panel and the light someplace?

Lowes has an area in hardware that has nuts and bolts etc that may fit. They are usually in those rolling drawers along one aisle.
If you have a woodcraft store in your area they carry all kinds of wingnuts and knobs for using on jigs and such.

Use a regualr washer and nut that fits to hold it on. The wingnuts are for ease of assembly.

Wrecking yard for replacement wingnut

Or lastly dealership

Your tail lights are p/n 1C0 945 171 D (left) or 1C0 945 172 D (right). As I suspected, my parts diagrams do not show the fastener (in your case a wingnut) or the size. They are not actually parts with VW part numbers, but the Dealer's exploded views list the fastener by description and size. They carry these in bulk for their service department.

You have my suggestion as to an outside source in the p/m I sent you, but with the part-outs that are going on around here, I would think one of them could fix you right up. Send them a p/m and ask! They probably won't see YOUR post.

Smileybug - Grey floor mats with NB logo
kcfoxie - TDI Turbo, oil pan, misc parts (some cosmetic)
Joe Cat - 03 TURBO CONVERTIBLE only 27K miles MOMS CAR SUPER MINT!!!!
creepingdeath94 - (FL) FS: 1999 Beetle 1.8T Whole Parts Car, 55K miles, Auto. Yellow w/Black Leather

If none of these fine people can help you out, just go back further in the "Parts & Accessories" section of the Forum

Not selling any brake lights or parts. And with the way things are looking, my car won't be parted out, it will be going to scrap so no spare parts other than what is listed now.

Here is a place we used for some little nuts and bolts (literally) when we rebuilt our Jetta: BusDepot.com - VW Bus / Camper / Vanagon / EuroVan Specialists

Doesn't include pics, which could be a problem at times, but it lets you do part number searches and its a lot of little bits. Not the best shipping times depending on the part (they will order stuff from Germany sometimes I believe) but if you need little parts like this, it can be useful. I'm sure there are other places too.

If i did that, then you would be able to reply to everything, leaving me to reply to nothing

But to let you into a little secret, i just rang the parts at the dealers

They have them in stock

Dealer price is right around $2.50-ish.
