Movie/TV Filming Locations - Local Siteseeing

I just wanted to share all the fun i had this weekend. The other week my mom was down to visit and she really got into the area i live and what movies were filmed here....so I bought a couple off Amazon for cheap, watched them and then drove around to find the spots they were filmed.

So far I have a bunch from the movies Blue Velvet, Maximum Overdrive and Dream a Little Dream. I have a few more (One Tree Hill, Dawson's Creek, Summer Catch, etc.) that i've found but want to add the small inset photos like i've done to these first ones.

That is so cool. How do you find out what's been filmed near you? Is there a way to look it up online?

alot of stuff is online...but they don't say exactly where it is or show photos. so since my mom's being a nut about "do you know where this is, do you know where that is?" i've started taking photos for her. for shows like Dawsons and One Tree there are a bunch of sites where people found houses or buildings, so that makes it easier. the house in Dream a Little Dream was easy cause in the movie they show the back of it and then show the school across the street...so we drove around the school till we found it. the one warehouse building that was Frank's in Blue Velvet, we drive by that every weekend going downtown for breakfast and i didn't recognize it till i saw the movie.

on sunday we thought we found the gas station but it just didn't look right, so we came back, i got on google and looked at signs in the movies (village dr, rt 17 and a land fill) then google mapped them and found that originally we were a few blocks away from the real intersection. i had to find that site cause i love Yeardley Smith from Legend of Billie Jean and when we were driving down the street i saw the one trailer (that's still there) and was like "that's where the mustang was sitting and the headlights come on as they drive by", then saw the train tracks and the gas station. being the dork i am i even drove over to where the truck pulls out before it starts charging the station toward Curtis (the husband).

as for more stuff...i either have a photo of the TV for the small pic while i was watching the movie or the actual photo of the place, but don't have both.

Here's 2 more. I had photos from a few months ago that matched up.

This is the balcony that they had dinner on. Used a couple times in the movie:

I'm probably the only person that owns the DVD to Dream a Little Dream Love that movie! It's up their with the amount of times I've seen Rocky Horror and Xanadu.

well now there's 2 of us!!! i got it off Amazon for $6. I didn't realize it would have the most site seeing stuff in it next to Blue Velvet.

my mom's next requests are The Crow and YaYa Sisterhood. I think i'll rent those. i still need to find the movie that started it all in NC...Firestarter!

I have a couple shots from the show Surface and One Tree...but need to retake the photos show it shows the same spot.

If i may, here's one i did a while ago here at home.

The convenience store "Quick Stop" as featured in Clerks, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Clerks 2, and was animated in Clerks Uncensored (animated series). Anyone who has ever seen a Kevin Smith movie knows this place.
