Anyone ever heard of this?

Oh yes. In fact, we do use those in 3D compositions.

Here is one that I have (I didnt make it tho). It helps shadows in 3D I guess/I think.

So it's called HDR? Cool! I didn't know that is what it was called.

I have done something like that in the past, where I would bracket a series of 3 shots and merge them together (with some erasing) to create the same kind of thing.

I've heard of using HDR in 3d modeling for backgrounds, just hadn't heard of creating them for normal photographs.
Guess I really didn't know what HDR was - thought it was only something used in 3d.
