Default The Rollei Twin Lens Reflex

After seeing Kevin's (Atomic Glee) thread about the Holga, and then Justin's thread about his LensBaby, I think it's time to show the world my newest camera.

The Rollei Twin Lens Reflex

But the simple thing is, this small, but powerful (3.1 MEGAPIXELS!) camera takes wild, square shots. Take a gander at the camera first, then some shots I took this afternoon.
And you know, what Kevin and Justin said is correct. You can have fun with something out of the ordinary.

NONE of these were re-touched; I just had to resize them for the ORG.

The original pixel size was 1760 by 1760; these are 768 by 768.

The first is the very first shot I took, of the clouds.

Then, there is this one from where I ate dinner.

Then, and the one that is the most 'art' of them all, is a shot of my cat Echo with my wife Ellen. NOTHING was done to that last shot; it just came out that way.

Another one from the ROLLEI. I have, again, done nothing out side of resizing this pic. Note the funky way, (at least I think it's funky), the funky way the palms bend.

I must be missing something. What's the advantage of this camera over any other digital box? I mean, the TLR viewfinder is much more awkward (especially if it doesn't have the flip-up magnifier). You can always crop your 4:3 frames to square if the framing is an issue.

It looks to me like it's just designed to look "retro" in order to appeal to people who ...

Never mind.

Well, it is retro, and it is stupid, yet, it's funky.

Plus, it takes these images that are not perfect. Here is an example, so you can see what I am talking about. I took both these shots from the same angle, no zoom, just point and click.
Yet, in the Rollei shot, the trees are bent, and odd in shape. Not in the Canon shot. Even if I did not spell 'Rollei' right on the picture...You can see what I am talking about.

Another of the just weird, straight out of the camera shots you get with this.

Nothing done to this shot, outside of resizing it. This is a shot of a friend of mine, inside my house, with just regular lighting, which is to say, not much in the room; no red light...

I have to say, it's just odd to me, how this camera seems to have a digital mind of it's own.

Cool!

Have you changed your white balance to incandescent lighting when you are shooting inside with regular lightbulbs? If not, that would explain why the shot is reddish. (I can give a better explanation if you need it)

Just a re-size. That is all that I did to this. It's art straight out of the camera. Now, if someone asks, I will tell what it was suppose to be a shot of, but for now, I will leave it a mystery.

Default Buddha

Here is a 400 year old Buddha, that I was shooting for the JUNE thread, but I took one shot with the Rollei.

NOTHING was done to this. It's all green by itself, and freakish as well. Just a re-size.
