June Photo Assignment: Old

I first must thank everyone for their contributions to May's photo assignment. Awesome job everyone! I'm proud of you all!

Onward to June!

I had a tough decision to make. We had some creative ideas in the suggestion thread, but most of the ideas were going to be a bit tough for some. I personally am not a fan of Bugs, other than the VW kind.

The summer idea was great, but I think I am going to hold that one until a later date, well, at least when it gets hotter like August.

Birds would be fun, but not everyone has access to the longer lenses to be able to shoot birds.

The Parents/fathers idea sounded good, but some of us don't have access of those either. (I live too far from my parents/father)

So I had to make an executive decision. I really wanted more input on other ideas, but the ideas weren't flowing.

I picked a theme out of the big list that most, if not all, have access to something old.

I now must go find something old as an example.

Ok, here is an example. Don't shoot me as this is an old shot of mine.

Here is something old, I just shot.

Well, I shot it in the last few weeks. But it's an example of something old. It's two pictures of my parents, which were shot in black and white about 59 years ago, or so. And then I shot them in black and white, with my Canon Rebel Ti 35mm camera; Kodak 400 film.

Cleared up the contrast, and some brightness in Adobe Photo Shop Elements 4.0

Now, just shot, about five minutes ago, is a a Coke truck that I have. It's from 1925 or so. My dad had it. I shot it twice, once in Pure Black & White, with my Canon Rebel XT, then in color, with my Canon 20D.

About all I did, was re-size it, and adjust contrast and brightness with the b&w pic.

In color, I re-sized it, and then, equalized it. Note that the first shot is just re-sized, oh, and some color correction.

All done in Adobe as before.
Oh, and the final one is done with a LENS BABY 2.0, and some eq.

hahaha well I guessed wrong but one of the shots I took today does count as old.

I found a spider to shoot and a bird sitting on an old lamp.

So I will post both.

I saw this spider this morning outside my window and decided he needed to go but before I knocked him down decided to get a photo.

Ok... one more for today. I got permission from Retrorich to post this picture... he definetly qualifies as old.

This is a barn I took a pic of at my parent's house in south Arkansas



This is a pic of a bug on an old headstone in one of the national cemetries in Fayetteville.


This is the cross that over looks Fayetteville.


In the background is an old tree. In the foreground is my bf holding a turtle we found on the road =D.

cool subject.....luckily i went around taking photos of houses that are on the market for my mom...and they're old!!!

so probably this month you'll just get photos of old houses from me

I had to go visit the Port Gamble, WA St. Pauls church that I am shooting a wedding at in about two weeks. Even though it was raining, and had lots of ugly clouds, I still took 101 shots with about 10 minutes.

The first pic shows the sign in front of the church, which states the church was in use from 1878-1979. It was taken with my LensBaby.


The second shot was taken at 24mm (18mm, but with a 1.5x multiplication factor with my DSLR)


I have to go back up there on Sunday as the lady that said she was going to be available to open up the church for us neglected to be found once we arrived.

Thank You very much. I shoot with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20. It has a stunning Leica lens with a 12X zoom and an awesome macro mode which allows me to focus down to an inch. It may only be 5mp but it still rocks in my book.
