Cool Volkswagen Cup, England 30.09.2006

We made it all the way down to Thruxton in the south of England for the final round of the VW Cup after missing last week's outing at Silverstone. Saturday gave us qualifying and race 1, in our absence Sunday would give us the final race of the 2006 series.
Only 4 New Beetles were present this weekend, but they were Beetle Cup cars!.
Read all the news and final outcome of the second race at www.vw-cup.co.uk

Finally, congratulations to Paul Taylor in the Big Boys Toys / Revo backed Golf IV R32 for winning the championship, here about to pop his champagne cork!.

Thumbs up

Brilliant shots! Thank you again for posting this thread and keeping us followers accross the pond up-to-date with the VW Cup series.

Hopefully, next year I will be able to create a need for me to visit our London office for a week. Then I can get two race weekends in before returning home.

Cheers......TechnoTrix'd........

If I lived in England, I would be divorced and live on the track. With the VW Cup series, I would just jump from car to car and race 24/7.

9k quid, or less than 20k US, is very "cheap" for a race ready car.

Great pictures !!!

Here on this pic:

You can see clearly the diferences in Cup kits, one has licence plate mounting place and the other doesnt, also the Revo with the licence less cup kit has the lower rear facia under body spoiler missing. Weirdly enough in those cars that spoiler must work perfectly since they carry no spare tire, in REAL bugs (with spare tire hole) that spoiler just collects dust and road stones

ALso I was pretty mad because my kit was not "perfect" at the fit and finish department, but after seeing these cup cars I feel much better...

anyhoo great pictures...did the ylet you do a fwe laps on your bug?

Thumbs up aaww thanks guys!

It was a pleasure to be able to put something back on '.org' as it is refered to here in the UK. For a few years now I've lurked in the shadows, read all your suggestions and did nothing in return. Glad you got a buzz from my photos, we've been to 5 of the 6 rounds held around the UK this year. Each time we have been welcomed by the teams, allowed unlimited access to the garages and encouraged to have a good look at the cars. We were even recognised on Saturday as 'the guys with the road going Cup car'
Here's 'Hernie' with one of his Cup cousins

and this was taken September 2005 with Paul Lloyd-Roach's car which is now black, he changed colour because of the impact our car had on him

If any of you are visiting the UK next year and want to take in a round of the VW Cup or visit a VW show, just e-mail or pm me.

The fit and finish on these Cup panels can vary tremendously, we picked ours carefully from the shelves in the VW Racing warehouse and still they didn't fit very well. Only the expertise of Danny Whitrow at RSD in Daventry enabled us to enjoy the car properly.

Now, has anyone over there got access to one of the Beetle Cup speedos / tachos (large 8000rpm display, small km/h display) as I'll pay good money for one of those!

I have disassembled the martin magnetti dash display and it can be reconfigured for BIG TACH small speedo with patience a good guy who solders and someone who can make the speedo numbers and marks (heck! there I think Marvins here put smurfs on hit speedo!) so I think its not that difficult, If you can get the part Number I think the Cups 2000 sold in Dubai have that speedo I can ask here at the Puebla plant if they have for repair/selling reasons...

Thanks for the ideas regarding the Cup speedo, to be honest if I wanted to go down the modify an existing unit route it shouldn't be too difficult as I have a couple of spare units here to hack about. I really want to get hold of one of the original Cup units to add to the character / exclusivity to the car. I have contacted VW Racing in Germany & England and Magnetti in Italy - all to no result. I have various photos of real units in Cup cars but no part numbers sadly. What really got my goat at the weekend was that I had been asking around the drivers and mechanics all season and then one appears in the silver Cup car, and the guy will not sell! And he has the only right hand drive RSi (modified by a VW Racing mechanic, not the real deal) that I know of.
If you are able to source one or point me in the general direction of one I will make it worth your while - many thanks!

If you are able to point me in the right direction to getting my hands on one of these units I would very grateful, it would really make my day / week / month etc.

Stealth 3rd brake light?? It's in a box upstairs in the bedroom, is that stealthy enough? The red light you can see behind the mesh is the high intensity rear fog light which we have to run over here, if you've heard about our 'pea soup' fogs then you'll know why we need rear fog lights. The light is a genuine RSi item and is matched to a clear reversing light on the other side. I also have an Alpine rear view camera fitted to the top of the red light to check up on Police presence behind me on the motorways

Finally - just got these to go in the newbie, they haven't been fitted to a car yet they are so new but are from the German Audi RS4 with the optional Recaro sports seats - how happy am I now??

Very cool. I have the "standard" EURO rear fog on my US version Beetle, and it has come in handy many times.

Camera mount sounds wicked though, got to watch out for those "cheaky bastards" on the motorways..

Seats aren't too bad, if you like that kind of thing...(. just mess'n, those seats are outstanding..).

TechnoTrix'd...
