Default VW Club of Tulsa's annual Fall Foliage tour (whole lotta pics!!!)

Last weekend we met up (a few weeks before prime leaf color, I'm afraid) for our annual drive through the country. We started in the town of Owasso, just north of Tulsa.

There were 2 Ghias, 2 old Beetles (a hardtop and a 'vert), a Cabrio, and me. We also had some new parents and their baby, but they couldn't fit all the baby stuff into their OB convertible, so they had to take the Bonneville. It was nice of them to stay in the back of the line, for the continuity.

Here we are, just starting off, near one of my favorite landmarks.

While on the highway, we saw a couple of hot air balloons enjoying the morning.

My wheel spin, HeadUpDisplay, and me!

Through the country, passing by a VW graveyard

Paul's shadow, and then our time at the birthplace of Will Rogers.

Some jackass.

Back on the road, heading towards the Will Rogers museum in Claremore.

And then cruising through town to lunch at a historic mansion.

Another New Beetle on the road!

At lunch, where they had an amazing baked fudge!

After way too much lunch, we went to the Swan Brothers Dairy for some raw milk, heavy cream, and delicious cheddar curds! Plus we got to watch the cows getting milked.

A few of us stuck around for the parade celebrating Will Rogers' birthday.

Just me and a Ghia travelled home together, by way of Route 66. Along the way we stopped off to see a landmark neither of us had ever visited, known simply as the Blue Whale.

Using a pebble, I signed my name, complete with New Beetle logo, inside the whale's head.

Here are a couple from when I was trying to escape from the whale's clutches, first down the slide coming out of the side of its head into the disgusting pond

Then from the mouth of the beast, trapped against its teeth!

What a beautiful day!

What color was the new 'vert in the parade? You have it in b/w.

Those pictures are looking great!
Especially the censored ones
Beautiful countryside/scenery where you live.
The big blue Whale can be seen with Google Earth, just check it out.

I'm trying my best to fly to Tulsa next year, but it might be Oklahoma City if not Albuquerque

Hooray! I'll answer questions!

First of all, it was a blast. I always love traveling with other VWs! Though we had a fairly small group this year (I think there were 10 of us last year!) it was a really fun group.

Debbie, the vert in the parade was red! I already forgot who the girl was. And not like you asked, but the NB I saw on the road was blue. I was a little upset to have the black & white film in the camera. I actually found some colorful trees!

John, as whacked as I am, just remember that I've got nothing on you!

Marcia, thanks for the praise, and I'm glad you noticed the censoring! I guess I don't pay much attention to the "beauty" of my home state. The grass is greener on the other side of the ocean, you know? I really hope you can come to Tulsa, but even if it's OKC I'll definitely come visit! You won't get away that easily!

Glad you enjoyed the shots, Scott! The parade was in honor of Oklahoma's own Will Rogers. Last Sunday would have been his birthday, so Claremore had the parade on Saturday. It was the first time in a long time that I experienced a parade from the sidewalk rather than the driver's seat! A lot of fun indeed!

Thanks for the comments, everybody!

Yeah, 'toine, it was a "nevermind" of a time for sure!

I'll see if anyone from the club posts up some more pictures, then I might post those here, too!
