Default Friesland meeting 19-21sep 2008, The Netherlands

This weekend, 2 men from the Dutch NB Club organised a weekend gtg in their part of the country: Friesland (and a bit of Drenthe as well)!

The gtg did already start on Friday, but I only spent the Saturday there.
On this day we went for a drive around Heerenveen in the beautiful scenery.
For lunch we went to Cornelis's house where he had put up a party tent and catering was ordered. His parents are very welcoming people!

From there we continued our trip to Drenthe (the province bordering Friesland) where we visited a jail museum in a town called Veenhuizen. Funny sidenote. This town/village used to have 5 jails. FIVE! There is still one active jail if I remember well.
Very interesting and beautiful scenery.
From the jail museum we continued again thorugh some scenic surroundings and eventually we've ended up back at the hotel.
There we had dinner and a party.

It sure was fun!

Here are some pictures.

Early Saturday morning, Pieter and Antoin are driving in front of me.
We are passing by the windmills, north in the province of Flevoland.

Here we are leaving the hotel. Mind you, we are at a golfcourt area, therefore it looks quite like an American streetsetting.

The hotel is located on the Golflaan. (Golf is of course the sport to golf, but Golf is also the name the VW Rabbit is called over here). As desperate as we are, this street was baptised to a better name

Cruising through the countryside

Stop on route for some scenery shots

Jeroen was very busy with his camera that day. I can't wait to see how the video will turn out

Yet another stop

Our private parkinglot in front of Cornelis's house. It turns out that he had put notes in his neighbours mailboxes asking them not to park there on Saturday.

Lunchtime! The weather was just amazing!

Jan, the other organiser, has made these keepsakes for us. He tried to get the metal match the owners car colour, so I got blue!

Parking on the parkinglot of the jail museum. No one was left behind in prison in case you're wondering...

The museum also showed how people were punished here in the Dark Ages... Cornelis is punished here

The former jail bus, now used as a tourbus

The former prisoners church

Autumn time!

There are many soccerfans in the group (mostly Feyenoord and Ajax), so a stop at the stadium of S.C. Heerenveen was a must

Back at the hotel

Before dinner we had some time for ourselves, so this shows what some people did

Obviously more is to come, but as I write this, the group is touring around Friesland, visiting a steam museum. In the afternoon they will be returning.

So stay tuned!

As usual, wonderful pictures, Marcia!!

I want to live on Bettlelaan street and have room in the yard to offer and take rides in a hot air balloon like in the hotel pic!!

Beautiful country and I love the narrow tree lined streets - um, oh ya, and great NBs too!

Which green one? The NBC or the one with the painted black roof?

Thanks for these pictures. Extra cool for me to see since my father's family came from Sneek to the US in the 1860s.

Wow, that is pretty cool!
As you can see on the map I wasn't too far away from Sneek (pronounced as snake, really), or Snits in Frisian.

Here's your answer and I hope it will help you.
I have no clue what Cornelis is talking about, so I know that my translation doesn't mess anything up

On the front he has a Mattig bumper which is 'cleaned', which means that the spot where the licenseplate is supposed to be is filled up/taken away.
Mattig.de
The bumper in the rear is standard, but it has 2 white lamps (red fog light has been changed to a white one) and it has a double sebring muffler (?) (a pipe on both sides).
The sideskirts are also original, but 'cleaned' as well. The coating was taken off and spaces where a Jack can be placed are taken away, smoothened out.

You're welcome and I've passed on your message to Cornelis, the owner (the one who stands in that wooden punishment thing).

Mazzzja, that "punishment device" is called "the stocks" in English. (We haven't used them for the last two or three hundred years, though.)
