Default Spring Cruise

The VW Club of Tulsa had it's Spring Cruise yesterday. It was an amazing day. We managed to turn a 250 mile trip into a 9 hour adventure! One of the best parts of the day was a total happenstance. We were driving through Afton, OK (headed for food in Miami, OK) when we spotted a small auto museum. We all did a quick u-turn and went back to check it out. While chatting with the folks there, they informed us that a road rally was coming into town and would stop for a break at the museum (old gas station). Anyway.....of course we stayed. It was amazing. We had such a wonderful day watching these great cars roll in with tags from all sides of the country, then we drove on up to Miami where we ate some great hamburgers at Waylan's Hamburgers "The Ku Ku". Then we hit the Route 66 Vintage Iron Motorcycle Museum in downtown Miami. Then we found an old section of the old "original" Route 66 that is only a single 9' wide lane. After that we hit 2 winerys and a dairy for fresh milk and cheese before we broke up the party and headed home.

Buying this little car and joining the VW club has sure paid off for us. We have had more fun in the last year than we've had in the previous decade! If you're not in a local club, I highly recommend finding one.

I'll stop blathering now. Just had to tell about the adventure. I shot about 400 pics yesterday. Here are a couple.

Sounds like a cool get together you've had.
And isn't Route 66 the coolest? Those old roads, sigh.... I have fond memories

Please show us more photos?

Fascinating That was a great situation that you and the birde fell into. Thanks for the awesome pics

The dude in pic #4 kinda looks like Jacob-Beetlemania, a fellow orger.

Yep, that is Jacob-Beetlemania, a fellow club member and fellow orger. Here he is lounging around on Route 66. He knows how to keep things lively!

How did we meet Jacob? It's been an interesting trip. Llona and I decided around New Year 2008 that we had always been homebodies and we needed to get out and see some country. Only problem was we needed a reliable road car. I had a list of a few roadsters I liked. Llona wanted a yellow NB. I decided to take her to the VW lot the first night of our "car shopping". They didn't have a yellow on the lot but Lily was itting under a sodium light and I fell in love. I came back the next morning and bought her. After a few trips to the Talemena Drive is was definitely a NB freak. In September we attended the VW Club of Tulsa Car Show and joined there club at the next meeting. The club is mostly air-cooled cars but I soon realized Jacob drove that silver NB in the parking lot. Recently he asked if I wanted to do the trip to Roswell and I agreed of course. While I was doing some searches for info on the Roswell trip I found the ORG. When someone named Beatlemania invited me to become a "friend" I realized he "lives" her too. That's how I lucked into meeting Jacob and all my new friends I've met here. And now I have 3 great road trips planned this year. Life is good!

If you're asking me, Jacob joined us at our GTG to Mt St Helens, in 2003. I took this pic at that time! Jacob, he gets around!

We have just over 150 members and at the last meeting I think we had 50 or so present. It is a great club and we always welcome new members and visitors. You should come and join us.

You do need to get around more, Gary! And if you love old cars you would have had a blast with us this day. We saw some fine automobiles and everyone was in superb condition.
