Default Bug in Finn 23-25 july 2010, Mikkeli, Finland

Quote:
The Bug In Finn is the largest event organised around Volkswagens in Finland. The show is attended annually by hundreds of VW enthusiasts from Finland and abroad. Visitors bring in vehicles of very different styles and ages, which always makes for a great and exotic atmosphere

BIF (as the locals call it)

An overview of some photos which I've taken during the Saturday we've spent there.

The yellow NB was once owned by a Tuning company.

Behind the cars you can see cottages which were rented by a lot of participants.

At these cottages, the VW club of Lahti was staying. And again, Coolbug is there.

This decal was made by the Lahti members.

If I remember well, this old Beetle is for sale.

More

In the local newspaper the event was mentioned. Try to read that

At 1PM a group made a cruise through the town and its surroundings.
It was a lot of fun to be part of this cruise, especially since a lot of different models were partaking.

In Finland it is very hard to find a road which goes straight

In the distance you see a typical Finnish house. Made out of wood, painted in yellow, red, blue or whatever with white window sills

The locals

The obligatory photo moment along the cruise.

More locals who are spectators to this unusual convoy through town.

A selfmade barbecue with a lot of genious items built in.

Yes, this weekend was a chilly one...

From left to right: Jartza (Coolbug), yours sincerely, Tapsa (Kuplamies)

Even some guys from St Petersburg, Russia came with their own Beetles. One was orange and painted on the side with Nemo (not on photo)

The winner of one of the contests which were held that day.

There's another shot of that bus further down. The one with Marcia in the pic standing next to the silver nB vert. The window just forward of the rear curved one doesn't look proportional to the rest either. At first I thought Brazilian bus but they're like the standard 15 window.

Great pics tho and yes, I'd love to see more.

Hmm, I hope Jartza will see this thread and will be able to comment on your question about the bus.
I have no clue....

Obviously I have more photos, but I wasn't sure if people were waiting for more.
Let's see what I can stir up.

Okidoki, your wishes are my command.

If I'm not mistaken, Jartza made this design and the club from Lahti were sporting these decals on their cars. I have one of them lying at home

This is something that can happen with old cars... luckily the guys got it running again.

The Finns love their saunas and hot tubs.

Dos muchachos de Mexico. El rocho is from 1995 and el blanco is from '85 if I'm correct.

The VW club members from the town of Lahti. It's a great bunch of people and I feel priviliged to have met them.

I always wanted a set of those wheels. I wish they would make these for the NB.

In 1963 the rear door became bigger and wider, so it was not possible to use that kind of windows after that.

I am not sure if all those things, which I mentioned, are actually 100% right, because I don´t know Typ2 so well. Maybe some Finn can add more information here or make corrections if needed...
I can confirm this, as that bus in the pics belongs to our club. I has been registered in 1962. When it arrived to Finland it was taken straight away to Wiima-company for modifications (windows). This bus was originally sold to Fire Brigades in Oulu city. And there it was serving as a rescue diver team's bus all the way till 1978...

Very cool retrofit for the windows. We've collected and restored type 2's for 20 years and knew that they weren't factory.

I know this is an old thread, but Im looking for some help with regards the Bug In Finn Official website. The link in this thread is no longer live for me.

I'm a Bug fan, live in Kuopio, Finland, and originally from the UK.

Mickyfin: The BIF official website doesn't exist, no-one has had time to build it for 2011 and for some reason, site for 2010 is down. It was hosted separately to FVWA site so we don't much about it. (I'm the fvwa.fi webmaster but even my powers are limited ....)

Here's the flyer, now in English
BIF 2011

Kuplamies already told about the facts about the bus windows but not the real reasons for those: Tax planning.

There's a long story about that in thesamba (by me), so I put just the URL here if anyone is interested:
Wiima-clone '61 panel van

One picture of the bus, a '61 panel van. This was most probably not made by Wiima but obviously used similar concept (and glassware).

Both, small one in the rear used gas and the big one in the front used charcoal.

Gas is for cooking potatoes or coffee indepedent of the big coal grill used for steaks or sausages.
