Smile Norm - 2002 GLS TDI

Just picked him up 3 weeks ago.
I changed the oil, ran bioD, changed fuel filter, air filter, in-cabin air filter, fixed up the leather, clay bar & wax.
I need to get a bit of touch up paint, install a RC2 if I can hunt down Mr. RocketChip, I want a bunch of chrome accessories & two silver racing stripes. Also need a Timing Belt change this spring.

Thanks everyone!
I thought they were just normal Beetle leather seats, no?
I'll take some more pics of the inside later...

It is under the top dash panel on the passenger side. At the base of the windshield. You have to take the middle panel off (it just pops out) and then the passenger side panel pops off. Take out a few screws and the really really dirty air filter is right there!

I found some pictures (that were not very helpful) and some instructions when I did it... but I can't seem to find them. This is from vwvortex.com:
What youll need:
Torx set
rags
vacuum
patience

First we have to remove the "center trim panel". This is done by pushing back towards the windshield, at the seam that runs across your whole dash, and lifting up. You will then see 3 torx screws towards the window, center. take these out and place somewhere safe ( i choose my cup holders )

Then you need to remove the right / left dash covers.. This is kinda scary but again be gentle and they pop right out.
In the image above you can see the area that you can stick you hand under and lift.. Whats holding them down is these tabs that press into the dash. they are tight and will snap out of place.

Then basically lift up and pull out towards oppsoite side. These nub things are positioned into the wall.

Next are the plenum panels. There are 6 torx screws. Unscrew and lift out. This is easy.

will look like this completed.

You should have 5 pieces in the end. if not then ummmmm, your SOL

Ok, now for the nasty nasty.. this is what i saw when we were installing the ECU.. pics dont do it justice

so i vacuumed everything out, took a damp rag and wiped around, pulled the filter and cleaned up..

put back together in reverse order. very easy and now i feel much better knowing that my underside is so fresh and so clean

I went to get some lunch at my local grocery store today & Norm had some unexpected fun!

and when I was leaving there was a yellow one & it said "MS BUG" on the plates and had Daisy wheels...

you can see Norm in the back.

My fan control light burnt out, so I ripped out the red platic & put in a blue LED from superbrightleds.com
I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out...
