Tough to install in the snow while sitting in a wheel chair. Actually I was just thinking about making an appt. with you to do a 40,000 mile service if you're interested.

Easy solution Tom. First you make a snowman with all the snow laying around Pomelo.

Then you will have clear space for the jack and room to work the tires ;-).

Like the remote monitoring system your putting together Tom. PM me with more details when you can, would be interested in something like that myself for track days.

Cool ..... TechnoTrix'd

Th1rt3en came over tonight and did quite a bit in only a couple hours. Thanks, SuperMan.

17x7.5 BBS Delta X wheels with the following
10mm ECStuning spacers (front)
20mm ECStuning spacers (rear)
40mm ECStuning ball seat bolts (front)
47mm ECStuning ball seat bolts (rear)
56mm Blue and White center caps (from ECS)

Drivers rear sticks out... just

Front is flush and looks better once Pomelo is all the way off the stands.

He then attacked the reason I have had a CEL for 7 months.

It's a 4 wire 02 sensor but for a Mitsubishi... it's not even BOSCH or even have a plug that remotely matches oem (wasn't connected!!!)

Expecting a nightmare and having to pull an all nighter we dug into being under Pomelo for the next few hours but... it came out about as difficult as turning the key in an ignition.

In goes the Draft 42 Design angled 02 spacer.

another 20 seconds and in goes the correct 02 sensor.

Suddenly we're done.

Still need to even out the tire pressures, wash Pomelo and then I'll shoot some real pics. Until then.

Thanks for looking.

Tom and Pomelo

Time for a summary of work done since November.

Last week I had to replace my fourth Autozone battery since 2006. So I picked up the Gold Battery from Advanced Auto for $158 instead of getting yet another free piece of crap duralast battery.

In November I had my downpipe and cat replaced because my original flex pipe rotted out and I was about to fail e-check. I took it to Yorktown Automotive Service Center on Pearl rd in Middleburg Hts. Up until that time they've provided me with stellar service but things just didn't feel right.

After looking at the work performed I have found several mistakes.

1) They used a 2.5" od pipe inserted INTO my cat-back and down-pipe. Effectively reducing my pipe to 2.25" instead of 2.5".

2) They used cheap u-bolts instead of the stainless sleeve clamp provided.

3) They kept my operational but original rear 02 sensor and replaced it with a non functional Mitsubishi 02 sensor with the wrong connector that wasn't even connected.

4) The didn't use my spacer.

They kept ALL my original parts AND kept all the hardware provided. Plus flat out stealing my 02 sensor.

I'm pissed and tempted to take this to local media. I mean as far as I'm concerned they stole from the disabled.

I figure they owe me the following.

$26 2.5" 42dd stainless sleeve clamp

$38 x 2 42dd 02 sensor spacer because they kept the first one and I had to repurchase the adapter.

$123.10 Bosch 4 wire Oxygen sensor

Plus all associated labor.

At least my CEL is off for the first time in almost a year.

Hey, bud. How ya doing? I'm not able to work on my bug and that's where all the problems began. I've had to... gulp... pay... other people to do the work.

I'm planning a GTG with Kat_1968 for mid-June. No thread yet but hopefully soon. Hope you can make it.

Tom

Thanks Jon!

Today Pomelo is back in the hospital. I'm waiting on the diagnoses as I type.

Thursday I drove 5 miles and got the blinking red light indicating either low coolant or over heating. I pulled over and noticed that my coolant was a bit low but saw no evidence of any leaks and could detect no sweet odors. I drove home and then Friday morning topped it off.

Drove another 5 miles and got the blinking but then after a few seconds it went off so ignored it. Finished my errand and went home. When I shut her down I heard sucking sounds and then the electric water pump for the turbo cool down spinning in an air bubble (will screech when dry) and then hit water and then screech.... I popped the hood. No evidence of a leak, empty water bottle, no water in the oil and none out of the exhaust.

I honestly have no idea where it went but I assume I will find out soon. Keep your fingers crossed it's cheap and easy. I don't want poor Pomelo to have to be kept off the road due to my ineptitude and generating finances.

Thanks, Ollie.

Just got a call back from Parkway Auto Care my Graf metal water pump seized a bearing and is the cause of all this mess. So even though it's only been in there for a short period of time it get's to come out. $500 will soon be departing from my wallet but I hope this makes Pomelo happy and ready for some miles.

Get's a big thumbs up for honesty, courtesy and quality of work. If you're local give them a try.

Pomelo's Graf water pump did in fact seize most likely because my car sat all winter outside and the thin layer of water between the bearing froze and warped the metal. Not particurly common on vehicles driven often but not rare on vehicles without a 60/40 blend that sit all winter.

$660.28 including a full system flush (extra) and a metal water pump. I could have gotten this work done for less and I could have spent more but I doubt I could have gotten it done with more courtesy and expertise. I'm well pleased.

Thanks, Jay.

I finally got a chance to drive Pomelo and did about 2.5 hours of nothing but urban driving to shake down the cooling system. The first dozen or so times I was sitting at lights I could smell the coolant and water steaming off.

They said it took them a few hours to bleed out the system and from the smell of it they spilled a LOT.

After an hour though... back to normal no funny smells and no coolant loss. She is running better than ever and I'm hoping that this time we're done with work until the next oil change.

Tom

The new owners are coming Sunday to pick her up. Kind of sad to see her go, but they seem excited about it.

Short answer; yes.

Long answer; She has had two different lowering suspensions. The first one lowered her 2.5" and worked great until I got sick of replacing C/V joints. I'm now running H&R OEM sport springs and Bilstein TC struts/shocks from the Volkswagen parts catalog (both items came on the 337/20AE Golf).

I'm very happy with the results as I now have a proper factory sport suspension which is both supple and supportive. Nice job, VW.
