Buttercup is almost at 121,000 miles and still runs as smooth as a sewing machine.

I picked up a convertible boot off of eBay two weeks ago (used only once, said the seller) for only $15.50...Volkswagen charges about $325 for the same thing new.

It keeps dirt out of the headliner while the top is in the down position, plus gives the car a very neat retro look, or even more so.

Default ScanGuage II

Here's my (fairly) new ScanGuage II...

In the photo below, I'm monitoring 1) Miles remaining on current tank, 2) Instantaneous miles-per-gallon (0.0 since I'm not moving), 3) Instantaneous horsepower, and 4) Water/coolant temperature. Any four of at least 12 gauges can be displayed, plus it reads error codes from your engine, and can be easily moved from car to car.

I actually started to say that, but I wasn't sure if a bug would be tall enough for that view, LOL.

That ScanGauge is awesome! Is it a difficult install? That would be so handy!

BTW, I LOVE your car! I think Bugs look so good with amber fog lights!

It took about 2 minutes...It just hooks directly into the OB-II port, and then you use velcro to put it wherever you want it. I just stuffed the wire (one cable) under the dash. The ScanGuage comes on with your ignition switch.
Very easy.
Here's the manual:

Thank you.
I particularly like to be able to keep an eye on the water/coolant temperature. Mine stays right around 193 fahrenheit unless I'm idling for awhile. It will also read celsius if set up that way.

The temp gauge is something I miss in the NB. I would like to get one of these for that reason mainly. The other read outs would be interesting but the temp would be the one I would watch the most I think. Thanks for posting the pics and telling us about the ScanGauge II.

Another useful gauge the ScanGauge II displays, that our cars don't have, is a voltage gauge. At a glance you can see what your battery voltage is (i.e., VLT=14.2, for example).

Here's a list of the main gauges:
Fuel Economy
Fuel Rate
Battery Voltage
Coolant Temperature
Intake Air Temperature
Engine Speed (RPM)
Vehicle speed (MPH)
Manifold Pressure (not available for gas Beetles, but there seems to be a code that works for TDIs)
Engine Load
Throttle Position
Ignition Timing
Open/Closed Loop

Maximum Speed
Average Speed
Maximum Coolant Temperature
Maximum RPM
Driving Time
Driving Distance
Fuel Used
Trip Fuel Economy
Distance to Empty
Time to Empty
Fuel to Empty

Last but not least, The ScanGaugeII allows you to troubleshoot your own car, read error codes, and the conditions present when the error occurred. Not a replacement for the VAG-COM by any means but a nice feature in addition to all of the rest of the things it does.

At the risk of being continually redundant, here is a link to my previous ScanGauge II link:
