Default davetaylor's white 1998 VR6 beetle

i picked up this '98 vr-swapped beetle about a week ago (oct 29). the list of mods is short and will likely remain so, but i'll change it up as the mood strikes me:

mk4 12v vr6 swap
fk high tec sport suspension
magnaflow catback
clear signals and such
jetta seats
kahn rs-s 17x7

on with some pictures.

i bought it like this:

and then added wheels and fiddled with it a bit:

i bought it already swapped by some shop in maryland, so it's well done. i gotta finish the a/c lines but otherwise i won't have had anything to do with it swap-wise. i'm just going to drive the heck out of it!

Great decision to pick up this beast. If I'm not wrong, this one was in MD and the garage that did the job was great. Keep the mods up

yep, this was done by a shop in maryland but i know very little about that story. i wish i knew more, but i don't even know which shop it was. maybe more info will turn up in time.

i love the power in this thing. my previous daily driver was a mk3 gti vr6, but this feels quicker by some. it's not the fastest car in town or anything, but it makes it very fun to drive. i'm needing to replace a passenger inner tie rod (i think) but i already gave it a good workout on the twisties here in illinois. it handles pretty well with the fk suspension but it could probably use a bigger sway bar.

maybe i'll shoot a video of it or something because the vr is my favorite sound. i need one of those headrest camera mounts!

i picked up a clarion dvd in-dash unit from ebay along with the vw oem din adapter thing but none of that's arrived yet so i'll just post random pictures until something good happens.

at bald knob cross in alto pass, il. this is what passes as a mountaintop here.

my new beetle's stablemate (it's off-topic but it's technically a beetle too):

Hey, nice beetles! I'm also dying to know if the V6 affects balance and handling characteristics

the handling feels a little oversteer-ish but i'm going to replace the inner/outer tie rods and the sway bar bushings to tighten it all up but i'll let you know after that.

yeah, it sat there just long enough for me to snag it. the kid who had it didn't know a thing about cars, so that probably helped it sit a while. almost everything he told me about the car was wrong, but i was local and could figure out the truth myself. the drivers side axle was about to go (broke the next day) and he said he'd heard some sound but just hadn't looked into it. it just needed some routine maintenance and it's getting it... plus a few goodies along the way.

i've only checked the mpg once and it was only over a 200-something mile range, but i was getting 26 mpg, which is right in line with my gti vr6. i have a lead foot so once the novelty wears off i expect my mileage to increase a little. even if it doesn't, i can definitely handle that mileage for how much fun it is!

i'll keep this thread posted on suspension fixes and anything fun i do to it
