That does sound like a good idea and I don't think puddles are in short supply around here lol I'm hoping it'll dry up so I can wash AND wax! Probie has never been waxed since I've owned him...for almost two years now... So, here's hoping for some dry, warm weather so I can wax, put on ToD stickers, maybe newbeetle.org stickers...and we'll see what else.

The tag is wonderful. Congratulations! So the flag survived running 80? I must get one of those. What size is it, Michelle?

it's just a simple flag that they hand out to kids on memorial day or fourth of july. Mine came in a pack of 4. Just zip tie it really well to the antenna. Might want an extra staple to hold the flag to the stick, but i haven't needed that yet.

If you go to Google Maps and type in 166 Born Street, Lawrenceville, GA. Go to street view and turn it around a bit, you will see some cars. Well the second car behind the Gold car...is PROBIE! That's my old vet clinic that i used to work at. How exciting!!! Probie is on Google Maps!

my bad! I haven't posted anything for Probie yet. He didn't get any "mods" this past weekend. I'm having it professionally done...hopefully tomorrow. No ToD stickers yet either Maybe I'll force myself to do that tonight. Once the mod is done, I'll take pics and see who's clever enough to notice what has changed...hehe

Here are the pics (finally) of my new "mods". Can you figure out what they are? I'll give you a hint, something has been added and something else has been removed. Give up?!

Default Nice car Michelle

Hi,

Michelle, take our advise on the timing belt deal. These cars have a few issues that most cars do NOT. They are made of mostly plastic, plastic over time get brittle. So when you do any repair take your time and dont muscle any part it WILL break on you. The timing belt will break at some point if not watched carefully. That will ruin your head becuase the pistons will come up with such force that it will bend the valves. Then you have a cool beetle that needs $ 3,000.00 plus labor to have the head redone and out back on. SO have that checked soon.. Also you do know that the font light has a bulb and the whole headlight unit does not have to be replaced unless it is broken.. They are not a couple hundred dollars either. You can find them on ebay for $90.00. They are relative easy to install.. But again they are plastic and so are the tabs that love to break... I speak from experience on that one.

Now that i have gave you some advise, Your car is awsome.. I love the silver color.. You have joined a great family here at the Nb.org check out the post on return to roswell NM you may want to go on the trip. Lots of beetles and lots of fun... Thanks for all the pictures..

peace NB lover

Ok, ok. Since a few of you have guessed it already I'll spill. As you notice as I have a new license plate, yay! LOVE it. Also, some of you have noticed the chrome tips...well let me tell you, it's more than just chrome tips. It's straight pipes to those chrome tips. And let me tell you something else, straight pipes...on a diesel....sounds pretty frickin' sweet!!!! And lastly, the center screws on the wheels are no longer red. I removed the red, after much work, and I plan to eventually paint them blue! I'm so excited. I'm tellin' ya, I really think the straight pipes added some new testosterone to my car. He's loving it and can't help but to show off to the other "cool" cars. LOL I totally made a guy in a Honda quiet his car so he could listen to mine love it!

You know that sound that the classic muscle cars make when starting up? Or that sound the some corvettes make when their exhausts are slightly modified.....

YUP, that's what Probie sounds like...but Diesel!!!

Thank you! I think everyone's favorite part has been the license plate. I was going to do DZL BTL, but if something ever happened, I really want to transfer this plate to the next dub that I own, so I thought this was more generic! And it was a nickname that Matt gave me when he found out how totally obsessed about my car I am! lol

I want to add that I LOVE not having a muffler. With the diesel you hear a little bit of the turbo whistling, which is awesome. But when it starts up it sounds like a muscle car. I love muscle cars so this is awesome. And you wouldn't believe the looks, much like this , when I drive past, many can't believe it's coming from the "cute little beetle". I've sounded out some Civics already and they slowly crawl by in shame that their car doesn't sound as nice as mine.... (Can you tell I'm just glowing!) Love it! The tips I think look fantastic, though it does hurt the ground clearance a bit, but oh well. Guess I won't be dropping Probie unless I cut out the fender!! Which...I'll wait til he's paid off to do that haha, though that hasn't stopped me yet..hmmm....lol j/k

I'm hoping to start on my painting project soon. Paint the center caps blue, get some blue valve stem covers, etc. I'm also hoping to get my spoiler on soon...it kills me to have it and not have it on! But I put money aside every paycheck, so i'm gonna keep my fingers crossed that it'll be done by end of July to early August. Got pushed back a bit due to some expenses I wasn't expecting...such is life. Anyway, I'm rambling. Just wanted to say thanks mainly but also brag a bit that now I prefer to roll with the windows down and radio off instead of the radio blasting and windows down HAHA I love my exhaust... (I think Probie grew some real testicles from this )

Probie is rockin' the style as well as performance. Hey Michelle, have you considered painting Probie's brake calipers blue too?

ironic you should say that....because yes I have. I'm hoping (fingers crossed) to have the calipers and valve cover powder coated blue to match. I might spray them myself first, but I can't seem to find the right blue that I want.

That Duplicolor caliper paint is the stuff! If you can't find the caliper paint in your desired color, try the DupliColor Engine enamel. It has the same temperature rating, so you'll be golden. Now the Engine paint, is in a rattle can, but what I did was spray it into a jar and brushed it on. If you go that route, wear gloves when you spray in the jar and proper masking of course

That sounds pretty good. I'll try it. Painting will wait a bit. I really would rather have my spoiler on than anything else. Even though I know it'll cost me like what $12 for rattle can and clear coat? lol Oh well...I'm weird like that I guess. lol

I have a funny/stupid story to share of my crazy events that happened yesterday with Probie. Ok, so I was running low on fuel. I knew that I needed to fill up. On my way to Matt's I stopped at the gas station to fill up. My mom was yacking my ear off on the phone, so no unusual noises were heard. So I filled up. Hopped in the car, and it wouldn't turn over. I tried and tried and tried again....nothing. So I called Matt. He was out and about and said he'd be there eventually. So I called Troy, my TDI mechanic. He said it seemed odd that it wouldn't start after filling it up. So I cranked it a few times again. He said my next option was to loosen the injector lines and start it. Fuel should come spewing out and then it should start. Me without any tools, had to wait. A guy in a tow truck tried to help, and I was getting nervous because he wanted to start taking things apart from my engine. so I told him I had someone coming but I'd call him if I needed a tow. Matt finally came...we tried to jump it, thinking possibly the battery was low. (it had happened to someone at church so we thought we'd try it) Nothing. So we do what Troy said, loosened the injectors and started it. Fuel came spewing but no firing of the engine. We did it one more time, once fuel was coming out of all four injectors, we closed them up. Tried to start it once again ... and VROOM!!! It started right up. I called Troy back and told him it worked. He said that I had a MASSIVE air bubble because I had let the tank get a little too low. :embarrassed: So, almost 2 1/2 hours later my car was up and running again....

So lesson learned

1. Get tools to keep in the car that work with the car.
2. Keep cell phone charged and handy in case something happens and I need to call Troy
3. Most importantly : Don't get too low on fuel...Probie doesnt' like it!
