The door sticker came from Laval VW in Canada(I forget which town, Quebec maybe). I got them while on vacation in 1999 or 2000, not long after I got Elwood. The dealer had a set on a red NB in the showroom and with the help of a salesman who spoke some English, they told me they had them custom made and could have a set ordered. So after giving them the color they ordered a set and three weeks later they arrived at my door.

I was refining my video game version of Elwood for Forza Motorsport 2 tonight.

Look familiar?

Well, I figure it's been long enough without an update. Elwood and I are still going strong. He's got 61,7XX miles on him now and no signs of stopping. Plus Elwood did his best and kept me out of trouble today. I was out driving and enjoying the warm weather on a back road near our house. On this road is a local hunt/shooting club. As we were coming up to the entrance a driver waiting to make the left turn into the club waved out another drive who was making a right and he never bothered to look and see Elwood and I coming down the hill. He kept going and didn't stop, forcing me to panic stop and swerve out of the way. Missing his Honduh van by literally inches. I was shaken but we were ok. Luckly the other car was far enough back that I came to a stop before I would have hit him head on. I am SOOOOOO glad that I upgraded to the EBC pads. They performed flawlessly. Elwood's getting a bath and an oil change tomorrow.

And these are from the Pittsburgh Classic last fall. Elwood took first place "Other Watercooled", while Herbie took 2nd in the Pre 67 Beetle sedan/vert stock class.

I'm on my way to pick Elwood up from the dealer. I had my CEL come on the other day and they found it to be two blown fuel pump relays. I'm glad it was only a couple hundred dollars vs. a couple thousand. I guess I'm doing pretty good (knock on wood). 13 1/2 years and that's the first time I've ever had a service scare like that. I know NBs get a bad rap for reliability, but I can prove that's just not the case.

The latest check up revealed a malfunctioning kombi valve for the CEL and the overheating was a bad water pump. So I decided to make the investment in a new timing belt and a new serpentine belt. Now Elwood's back to feeling all better.
