steve, i got my car aligned today at pepboys on post road...they did an AWESOME job! i told the tech what i wanted/needed, and they did it, and well.

i brought my car in full low because that's when i have the issue with camber, and they gave me one hell of a setup.

alternatively, there's several good places in that area that aren't chains.

Thanks for the info. And they had no problem getting your "lowered" car on and off the rack?

I sent some of the finished interior pics with the Steering Wheel to RUF USA and just received this response:

"Photos look awesome! Congrats on such a great project! You are so very welcome for our help, it is an honor to be included in such projects!"

To say I'm flattered to hear this from RUF would be a gross understatement. It really does validate the years of planning, designing and hard work!

they had no problem with our golf, no. the golf has coilovers, so i had it set where i normally drive it (and my dad), which is no fender gap.

got right up, even with the r32 front. most racks have a pretty subtle approach if they're modern, and if they were to have an issue, there's ways around it (they have helper sheets of metal).

i too installed a new wheel and found it off on my new setup, so i explained to them that. they dialed in the car with equal toe and camber both sides.

there's not much to do in the back unfortunately, but in terms of the front end alignment, i was happy. they actually give a 90-day warranty on the alignment, so they will make it right. in my case, i have to go back as one of the ball joints is failing, and will need to be replaced.

i asked them to place plastic on the seats, a mat on the floor, and fresh gloves on the hands, and they obliged. to my surprise, the car was just as clean as it was before. my dad might not know all i do about cars, but he can keep 'em clean.

i still think tires plus is the best, but around here, i'd have to reccomend pepboys. best alignment i've gotten in new haven/fairfield county so far.

if i had a rack, i'd offer to do it, but a rack requires a garage, which i don't have yet.

i'm assuming your tie rods are in good shape, if so, should be a walk in the park.

some rain today, eh steve? i'm not gonna lie, i threw on a poncho, grabbed the simple green and a sponge, and washed the white car.

Ha Ha, at least you have good weather in the Summer, all we get in Ireland, is rain and more rain all the time, every time I look at your motor, the more I see, the more I like, great Bug.

Hey Hollywood, did you ever track down which magazine it was that had published pics of your ride?

No, never heard any more from the guy, and to tell you the truth, am just as glad as I'm in discussions with a publication now, and they (obviously) want the first shot at the car!

Sweet! Out of curiosity, do magazines pay for first dibs at publishing a sweet ride?

Great job, it's rare to get a complimant like that.
Seriously I would have suspected that they would say you'll be hearing from our lawyers.

Yeah really. Don't think that thought didn't cross my mind when I was sending them all the shots lol.

The guy I've been dealing with at RUF USA however, has been extemely helpful, supportive and very cool about the whole project. I guess once they saw that I wasn't someone just using their name, and doing a "hack job" on some car, they were able to get behind it and appreciate it!

Anybody that talks trash about NBs should be made to check out your car..

That's got to be one of the most well thought-out vehicles that somebody has ever done. Magazine quality!!!

Hey Hollywood,
In looking through your pictures again. I paid close attention to this one and wondered.
Was the camera rolling with you in a side car? Or was it stationary as you zoomed by? (how fast were you going?) I'm just loving the motion effect and was curious.
Great pictures, great mods, a very inspirational car and most definitely my favorite bug here on the org.

motion blur of background + [relatively] clear image of car = camera in motion

clear background + motion blur of car = stationary camera
