Talking cpoore - 06 TDi Yellow Beetle with 2" lift

Hey,

Well I just got Tonka (thanks SMG) back from the shop and thought I would post some before after pics.

This was how she looked when we picked her up at Carmax.

I couldn't make up my mind on a direction for the car, so put off buying parts for the first year. Then I decided after dragging the rear bike rack enough... to lift and make baja/beach buggy style.

First: I decided to put 15" Keskin rims with BFG TA's 255/60/15 in rear and 225/60/15 in front.

I'm thinking about painting the small insets white.

Second: I decided to get the Metalnerd 2" Lift Kit. I then got the BLAUSport's Autobahn Series Struts and Shocks Rebuild Kit.

It handles great with the new lift and shocks.

It feels much more stable in the corners and its nice not to feel like I'm bottoming out over large bumps.

Next: Custom front/rear beach buggy bars w/light mounts and a safari roof rack.

Later,
Chad

That's definitely a unique look for an NB that you don't see every day!

Thanks Judee. I hope it will stand out. I plan on doing her in yellow with white accessories and then maybe some sky blue pin-striping.

Thanks D2Beetle. Wow, three yellow NB. Thanks pretty cool. I wish I had that sunroof. I dont know if I have ever seen the Lemon Yellow before and that interior matching color on the seats rocks. You could have one lowered, lifted, and OE.

Thanks bud. They can rotate it if they want. I want to get some pics of it around all the covered bridges around here in the fall colors. I will start measuring next week for the bars. I'll keep ya posted on progress. I got two designs in head but want to sketch it out on a drawing and/or photochop to get an idea of complementing the NB design and shape.

Ha, I think it literally went around twice. Anyway, I got this weird top metal hitting sound from rear end. I thought maybe shock mounts at first but they were replaced when I got lift installed. So, now I think it the rear axle bushings. We hauled the bug in a trailer almost a full 8 months last year while on a camping trip. I figured that having the wheels tied down would affect the shock still and other things as well. My back brakes are also starting to get that grind feel on heavy pressure. I got the parts orders... and lifted the car, looked over some DIY instructions and think I will take it to shop for bushings.

I have also been working on documenting a project proposal for knight foundation grants. (Deadline got moved back thankfully to Dec 15th - Knight Foundation)

So for the bars, my thought are on three designs. One like you showed me. One simple like a beach buggy (similar to this UNIVERSAL FRONT BAJA BUMPER,Dune Buggy VW Bug:eBay Motors (item 360197951571 end time Nov-12-09 05:55:07 PST)). The last one is more complex with a bent oval shape (similar to this Stainless Steel Rear Bumper Guard VOLKSWAGON TOUAREG:eBay Motors (item 250355831745 end time Nov-07-09 13:02:22 PST)). My thought on building these are to bend up shapes but make it in multiple parts (using spreader to make smaller/larger ends). This would allow for smaller package shipping and could be just bolted together or welded or both.

Too many fires in the oven at moment but it will come around.

PS: Steelers were looking good in that Vikings game.
