Default esears1 - 2001 Cyber-Green Beetle GLX 1.8T

Hi Folks,

I acquired my NB in Jan 2010 from my niece who had to relocate to AZ and couldn't take the beetle with her (Short version: Her parents are divorced. She needed a car, Parents couldn't get her a car, so my wife and I got her a loan for the car. Things weren't working out with her mom, so she moved to AZ to live with her Dad. Dad didn't want the loan in his name so car stays with us). At first i was sad that she could not take the car, but now that Ive been driving it for awhile, I'm glad that she didn't take it.

We got the car originally in August of 2009 and it had 92,000 miles on it. Anyway, I finally got some pics together..

Enjoy!

p.s. the second pic is my son who was very excited when we bought the beetle.

Hahaha. I think your right. He's the one that will wind up helping me mod the car!

any tips on what i should do first? Im thinking my first step is to get some rims. I already took out the air box which helped alot! The car feels more responsive.

I had to lower mine first..tho it wasnt low enough it looked better. Even on stock hubbie cars look better lower
Exhaust(my next thing to do) always a nice addition
The painted light bezel mod is an easy one to do as well.
Euro switch is cheap and cool to have. I enables you to turn on your fogs without headlights being on.
Daytime running light delete. Helps show off the painted bezels
All those makes a big difference on the look and feel. Less girl car and more your car (there are girls with nice beetles tho)

I am so mad. I went to start the car today from the train station and the car won't start It looks like either the starter or ignition coil is bad. I saw some smoke coming from the area between the motor and battery cover when i tried starting it. I'm going to have it towed to my house in the morning

I found out what the problem is. The starter was bad so I replaced the starter and when i went to start the car, it still wouldn't start. After checking around found out there was oil in the spark plugs. The oil is coming from the turbo so I have to take the turbo out and put a new seal in. While i'm doing that i'll go ahead and put my new AC compressor in.

Look what came in the mail today!

The AC Receiver Dryer and the AC Compressor. I'm still waiting for the AC Condensor, o-ring kit and the expansion valve. Once they come in I can start putting these parts in the car.

Well, I got all the AC parts in and I also got the turbo fixed. A buddy of mine helped in replacing the seals on the turbo. I had the car running for a week and now it seems like I have 3 bad coils. I remembered that I got a letter in the mail from VW saying my car has a recall on the coils, so they will replace them for free I'm going to drop off the beetle sometime this week.

I got my car back from the dealer with all four coils replaced under the recall for free!

I went ahead and replaced the valve cover gasket since I had a small leak. Now i should not have a oil burning smell.

I've been having troubles with the idling as well as receiving a bunch of error codes. I spoke with my buddy Raymondlee who told me to clean out the throttle body and mass air flow. I cleaned both out and the car is running a lot better because it is not stalling out every few minutes and surging on the highway. Although the idling is still fluctuating.

Here is a pic of what my throttle body looked like..

Yeah I know.. I didn't think the throttle body cleaner would work. Thought I would have to bring out the brillo pads.. She's still a little rough on the idling but not as bad as it was before.
