Update:

No good news today....

went to go do the usual running around and I started to hear a whining noise whenever I turned the stering wheel. when I got back and let Lucky cool down a bit I looked underneath to see if anything was leaking..... well it wasn't leaking so much as pouring. now I need to get lucky up on jacks and survey the damage.

any guesses as to what it might be?

I'll update again when I know more.

Ok lucky is officially down for the time being. he needs a new rack I think.

I found the leak and its coming from the left side power stering bellows. a couple of pics for show.

Hey all, Haven't been here in awhile and thought I would check in...

Lucky rolled over the 180,000km mark this week and he's still going strong. I wish I had a camera so you guys could see Lucky's new accomadations, roughin it. I lost the garage and got a tent. The power steering isn't fixed, more like removed. That's right no more power steering. I was going to take the AC out with it but my wife threatened my man hood should I choose to do so.

Lucky will be getting a makeover over the winter and I'm promissed lots of pictures of the process I will post them as I get them. but it won't be for a couple of months yet so don't hold your breath waiting.

My wife and I have moved out of Winnipeg in search of work to wind up in Arborg Manitoba. I now work for a Nordal's auto repair. Awesome place and I've learned lots. sadly I seem to own the only VW in town. or for about a 100miles or so.

Anyway thats everything in a nut shell.

I've taken a look at all the postings I can when I can. the internet is really slow out here and I only get one day a week to play on it so I don't post as much as I wish. But I love all that I see. even the custom pink one. Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing all the projects in the future.

Cheers!

Hey man!
Good hearing from you- been wondering where you were. Glad to here all is good with you and the wife.

Man, your arms will be all the more stronger without the power steering.

Hope to here from you often. Have a safe fall/winter up there. Snow should be falling in a little while.

Cheers

Haven't really noticed the difference in the steering. the only real difference is its hard to turn at a stand still.

Can't wait for the snow to come. still looking at the 2 tone idea and body kit. but I really do want to do the MR conversion just don't know if its in the budget. cross your fingers.

I learned how to drive with my dad's simple no frills 1983 manual Nissan truck. It was so long ago the Nissan was in big letters on the tailgate with Datsun in smaller letters underneath.

It didn't have power steering or AC and other than at a stand still you can't even tell a difference really. If anything the steering seemed more precise and responsive but that may just be me.

forgive me .org it has been 3415kms since my last post.

Lucky is still going strong. no problems what so ever. little loss in fuel milage (more like alot) I think its due to the desperate need of an oil change. not sure though. could be more than that.

I'm now on the hunt for a turbo kit for more than just me now... I have a few co-workers that own tdi's and 1.8t that would like some upgrades. so I'll post those projects as they happen. not here... they're not beetles... vortex most likely.

anyway just wanted to say hi!

peace.

Don't turbo it. Sell it or swap a 1.8T in.

you did... besides i'm only looking for mild boost. maybe 10psi. I've already got a 1.8T in the works but it will be a golf or jetta. lucky is my daily driver so nothing to major happening to it.

If i find a 1.8t for cheap i'll do the swap but i like the 8v engine so we'll see.

Even for mild boost you need rods, etc. Not worth it at all.

ok got a lead on a 1.8t for cheap?

there are a few 2.0 turbos running stock internals without issue. The only thing I'm really concerned about is the #2 cylinder oil rings being upside down. boost that and BOOM go the rings....

depending on the budget I get from the bank to do the mods a complete teardown might possible. heck I might even just buy a new motor altogether I found a site or two that do offer new ones for not to bad pricing for a boost ready AEG. mind you if i go that route I might aswell spend the extra and get the 1.8T. we shall see.

anyway, aren't you selling a turbo kit for the 2.0 turbo conversion? I might be willing to buy it.....

I sold it already unfortunately. External gated turbos are prone to overboosting, if you have a stock bottom end one vacuum leak in the wrong place and your rods are going to look like this.

10psi is the maximum boost a stock AEG can take before things go wrong. I had a fully built-up engine with forged rods, pistons, fancy low-friction bearings, every ARP stud and bolt that would fit the engine.

It still blew up. If I had any faith in the setup at all I would have just put a new head and block in it.

ok ok... I'll find something to do for it. but stock stock is not an option. suggestions are welcome. I was thinking supercharger but the nuespeed one is crazy expensive. would be nice though.

The one thing that I really want/need is to lower the rpm on the highway. I came across tranny swaps awhile ago but I can't seem to remember the site that was selling them.
