Default Rocan's 2005 GLS "Muņeca"

I love my little bug! I named her Muņeca which is spanish for Doll because of her eyelashes. She's a 2005 GLS Sundown Orange bug.

I don't plan on making huge modifications to her, only subtle ones.

I started with the eyelash decals. I opted for those over the 3D ones because I travel excessively (and i mean EXCESSIVELY) through rain, snow and wind. I'm not sure the 3D ones will be able to handle all of that like the decals can.

I then swtiched the antenna for a custom made flower antenna, still the same length. It's made especially to last through harsh weather and conditions, and its got a wide base so it will not bend like the older antenna. It was really flimsy and bendy, especially when I covered it with a car cover.

But I for one actually like the really long antenna. Makes it feel more like a bug's antenna. : )

When I bought her she came already with custom sheepskin seats, both front and back. I simply put a checkered blanket on the back seats as a cover. And since I travel a lot, I tend to sleep in my car a lot, and therefore the cover also doubles as a blanket. : D Plus it looks stylish.

I plan on doing more subtle changes as I get the time and money.

She's pictured here with her boyfriend Leon. He's a 2009 Ford Fusion--my first car. He used to have a custom top hat antenna and a black mustache---but they were in horrible condition after getting stuck one night in the mountains due to a snow storm. :0 Now he just has a sticker in the back that says "I wish an apple a day would keep morons away!"

I have some extra vinyl laying around, so this is what I want to do with the decals to match the back seats. What do you think?

She also needs a REALLY good cleaning under the hood.

I was so sad to find out that I bought her skid less--with the exception of the driver side skid plate, which fell off just a few days ago.

I ordered the Panzer metal skid plates so I can't wait for those! : D

I want to kill someone..... >

Our farm has a mechanic shop, and I took it there to have the skid plates installed. An hour later, there's no skids on it because the previous owner messed with the bottom screw holes and now everything's messed up.

And then, I see THIS.

Still skid plateless.
Haven't done the checkered emblem yet.
Still no money to fix the scratches.

Some kind stranger did put a bandaid over the scratches though.

HOWEVER.

I was inspired by iluvmyVersa08 Hello Kitty Versa to do the back part of the trunk that acts like a hood. #1

It's a little rough at the bottom, but by then I was sticky so there wasn't anything I could do. #2

My seats have a checkered blanket over it, and I wanted the back to match somehow. #3, view from the passenger side

I also did a small section of the front for a pop of colour #4 & #5 . My car is dirty right now, and it's 100+ degrees outside. : (

I wanted to do either the sunroof cover, or the top of the windshield wipers next (the parts that dont touch the car). Which would you choose? I don't want to overpower the bug with checkers, but I would like to see more.

That sucks that someone scraped your car!

But, it could have been worse.

Yep, they could have kept slashing at the poor thing.

and thanks OhSnap! I might have to move my collection of scented trees elsewhere so it can stand out more!

Here's a shot of the bandaid someone put on my car. They even left a note for the person who did it! It reads "Dear moron who did this, I hope a VW beetle runs over your pet!"

Certainly don't want a beetle running over anything, but it feels nice to know some random stranger cared!

Finally got around to the checkering the emblems. I decided to do just the insert and not the whole thing. It's a little sloppy, but nonetheless I like it. : )

I found a shop in town that specializes in just VW Beetles, so I head there to get my skid plates added, and possibly an estimate on fixing the scratches.

Sorry for the bad quality of photos. I used my phone since my camera's battery was dead.

Added checkered detailing to the handles.

As for the skid plates.... *sigh*
  • I went to that VW body shop
  • The mechanic had no idea what a skid plate was
  • I went to a VW bug specialist
  • Said he'd have to mess with the shocks--which meant he too knew nothing of the skid plates
  • Went to a general mechanic. He said these were some intense skid plates. He tried to put it up, but he said the screws did not line up, and I had to go get bigger screws or ask a VW dealer if they have bigger screws
  • Went to the VW dealership
  • They KNEW what skid plates were and said they'd put them on for $50
  • They didn't.
  • They said it was an "Off market brand", as if Panzer plates aren't widely known by VW people
  • They looked through the instructions, and said they'd charge me $100 and couldn't guarantee it'd work
  • They suggested I return them and buy the factory $300 plastic plates
  • They also said the car would stay there overnight, and charge me for that too.
  • I said screw you.
  • I bought a car jack, a metal welding device and some bigger screws.
  • I went home and welded the damn thing to the car myself.

So now I have my skid plate frame welded to the car. The screws provided were too small, and I couldn't find any perfect sized screws. The plates will still come off if I unscrew them just as they're supposed to. It's just the frame that the plate screws onto is welded to the car now. I was very upset I went around all of town and could not find anyone who would put them on.
I would have returned them if the place that sells them doesn't strictly say no returns. But I also really need these plates since I offroad alot and my car doesn't even have the plastic ones to begin with!!

Colours are off and some things aren't exact (like the round eyes) and I still have some tweaking to do--but here is the 3D representation of my car.
Gonna hopefully have a short animation of her in two weeks.

Rendered and modeled in 3Ds Studio Max.
