Default liz.hill's 2001 White GLX

Hey all, got my NB on Friday (5/6/11) and haven't had time to wash or do any mods yet, but I thought I'd start a thread anyway

So, without further adieu, introducing... FLETCHER!

Fletch is bone stock right now, and the only things wrong are a missing headrest in the rear, a missing cupholder insert, and the console/armrest is missing the piece that actually locks the top in, so when you flip it into the up position the top flies open. Some minor interior wear, but overall in really great shape. He's a 2001, but he only has 61,000 miles! Still, he needs a little TLC, so this coming weekend I'll take him out and clean him really well.

The pictures are of Fletcher on the day after I got him, with me and the boyfriend after our graduation, a shot from my apartment balcony today after I got home from work, and the wheels that Miles (the boyfriend) picked up for me in Seattle today, but I'll have to wait until I have time off from work to drive over and get them. They're 18" Enekei's that are a few years old and have a little bit of wear, but have new tires and were only $500!!

My initial mod list (short term) looks a little like this:
-Red anodized stubby antenna
-Wheels
-Paint brake calipers red
-Black out center bar of lower valance (possibly add red trim a la GTI, but I'll have to mark it out with some red electrical tape first because I'm not sure how it'll look)
-Turbo badge in the rear (or 1.8T, haven't decided)

More expensive/time consuming mods and mods I'm not sure about:
-Black roof (haven't decided whether to paint or vinyl)
-Headliner/interior panels in black/red/grey (think interlagos)
-Carbon fiber dash/head unit
-Carbon fiber/red shift knob
-Red VW emblem inserts
-Angry eyelids

But first... a really good wash 'n wax!! Oh, and remove the dealer frames... SO UGLY!

Fletch is a manual, so I'm still learning to drive him, but I didn't stall at all today, so I'm feeling pretty good. I'm planning my routes very carefully, though, to minimize stoplights and hills, and especially stoplights ON hills

But even with having to relearn how to drive, my verdict is:

I LOVE HIM!

Hope you do too

Since today almost got up to 70 and was nice and sunny, I gave Fletch a wash and waxed him up good. I don't think his previous owner ever waxed him...

And then to celebrate being clean and shiny for the first time in a loooooong time, we went and took some pictures in the Palouse sunset!

Enjoy!

P.S. The last one's my FAVORITE!!

Grrr... parked him outside of my work and he got a thin layer of dust ALL over... At least it wipes off really easily with the wax, but still, it SO figures

Gotta get him some new wiper blades before we get the thunderstorms that are now forcasted for this weekend, too. Again, figures

Going to Seattle next weekend to visit the boy and get my wheels on. I'll also be painting the brake calipers red then

So if anyone is in the Seattle area and wants to meet up, I'm totally down, send me a PM!

Revise your mod list with a new #1:

- replace timing belt/tensioner/water pump

Yes, that needs to be done very soon, but Fletch also needs his 60,000 mile service (he's at 62k and I doubt the previous owners did it) so I am going to have everything done at 65k. I think that's still on the safe side and should get me through the summer unless I go on a big road trip, in which case I would have everything done before I left.

I have had a shop look at him and they said things looked good still and they said 65k wouldn't be pushing it. Of course they said I should have it done soon, but they said 65k should be just fine.

So, since I changed my username (story can be found on the linked page) I started a new thread for Fletch:

lizhill's White 2001 1.8T GLX

If you're subscribed to this thread, go subscribe to that one because that's the one I'll be using from now on to post pics of Fletcher
