Bart, these should give you a better perspective. In the pic of 2 Karmann Ghias facing eachother. The white (closest) has a 3" whitewall and the agave green is 2.5". 2.75" on the single Karmann Ghia. They're all small increment changes, but can make a radical statement. My honest opinion would be to do something like your latest mock up. You didn't state how wide you made that last taped whitewall? In either case, you'll find it really compliments and completes the look

Thanks Gary,

Nice pics, I love karmann By the way is that you behind the steering wheel

I made the last tryout with 4 x 08" tape with overlapping, so I think it was a total of +/- 3". I stopped at the base edge of the tire tread. So I think this is the max I could get on this tire.

I'm an old man. That was my eldest grandson behind the wheel
You definitely don't want to get into the tread area, just for maintenance sake. A hard turn flexes the sidewall pretty good so you don't want to scuff up your work.

On an off topic note, as I type, I'm sipping a Lindemans Kriek.
Being a home brewer for decades I've developed a taste for Belgian libation

Ok old man

You definitively have good taste in cars and Belgian beer. Lindemans Kriek is the best Kriek beer in Belgium.

But if you like dark or blond beer, try ones "Affligem". It's from my region and one of the best in its category.

In the meantime I checked out Ranger tire paint, but they wont ship to Belgium.

So I will try plastidip on a damaged tire I have in my garage and let it age for some weeks. If the result is OK I take the change for the fat white walls like in the last pictures I posted.

In the meantime thanks and Cheers and enjoy the Kriek

One of the best retro style New Beetle's I've seen, especially like the boot rack
Keep up the great work

Thanks ShaneM,

We try to no over exaggerate and I think it works well. We still wants some large white walls on it, but we have to be sure that they last and not peel off.
In Europe white walls are not so common so I'm still looking for a proper solution.
Regards,

Really like the retro look you've put together. You may want to look into Coker Tire for some retro whitewall tires...

Found these for a 16" wheel...

American Classic 1 1/2 Inch Whitewall - 205/55R16

I'm not sure about shipping to Belgium but it's worth looking into

Edit: I actually found a distributor near you...http://www.oldtimerbv.nl/tableaux/index.php

So If I am reading this correctly? You made your own whitewalls? and used smoothie rims... I would love DIY instructions on this since whitewalls are pricey! Would it be possible to make "whitewall tires" but not white? Since i have a gecko green convert with the tan top, I think Tan walls would look cooler....

Hi Disneybug,

I bought the palsti dip spray cans and I tried it out on some damaged tires, and it worked well. Still I didn't us it on my wives car. A friend of mine used plasti dip to renew rubber sealings on his 70's 911 and it worked fine. Plasti dip you can get in different colors, so green has to be possibel. check ou Coatings and Adhesives, Rubber and Plastic Coatings | Plasti Dip Interntional
Cheers

@300exoh

Thanks for the info
I appreciate this. However since I put new tires on the Smoothies(4000 km ago) I'm still thinking of applying plasti dip. However I'm afraid that the white will become yellow. That's why I'didn't do it yet. The pictures done with white tape, just to see the effect. For sure it looks great.
