Painting the interior was the easy part....its the prep work that tedious.
first I sanded the parts using 100 grit folowed by 250 grit....than finally with 400 grit.... Second step was to prime.... I sprayed everything down with 2 coats of primer.....I let it dry for about 30 minutes...than I wet sanded the parts using 800 grit sand paper. the parts were smooth as silk. I laid down another coat of primer.....waited about 15 minutes.....than sprayed the base coat of silver. First coat was very light.....second coat was heavier...I wet sanded it after the second coat with 1000 grit paper to get the finish as smooth as possible. I sprayed the 3rd and final coat of base coat and let it dry for about an hour. Last step was to spray the clear coat. I sprayed on 3 coats of clear sanding very lightly with 1000 grit between coats. After the last coat....the finish was near mirror....and I havent even used polishing compound on it yet. I will probably polish and wax it in a few weeks and it should be as reflective as the NB exterior. I wasnt too sure about the silver at first...ut I love it now. The whole project took me one whole day....about 8 hrs of work...but well worth the effort! REMEMBER......the secret to painting is to take your time!! Whew.....that was long.....sorry....lol I used duplicolor primer and Duplicolor silver base coat....you should be able to find this at you local automotive store. It took me about 2 cans of primer....3cans of silver....and 3 cans of clear to do the whole interior. |
