Default What was your first ride???

... and what did you really want as your first ride???

31 years ago ... a red 1969 Dodge Polara with a 383 c.i. V8. Not my first choice, but the price was right as I inherited it from my dad. Unfortunately, I have no pictures of that car, but found a Dodge brochure from that era at http://fuselage.de/index.html?http:/...lage.de/dod69/

Being a 16 year old back then, my first choice was a red 1973 Pontiac Trans Am Super Duty 455. http://tachrev.com/Web_Pages/SuperSpdwy.html Obviously, my parents were much smarter than me at the time. Maybe someday after the kids are grown and out of the house ...

MY first was a 73 Beetle.

I did'nt want anything else but a beetle when I was 16.

The 73 was a canary yellow and had some rust and some problems but never let me down.

My first ride was a 1979 Pontiac Bonneville, and it sucked gas like crazy. It was okay, but it was given to me by my father. After a heated argument he took it back, and I got a 1989 VW Fox - loved it!

First car... 1969 Beetle with autostick.. in blue.
Second car... 1967 Beetle, (in green) because Beetle no.1 donated
it's transmission after it got ran into and shoved 30 feet down the street.

And I REALLY wanted a Beetle

My first car was a 1970 Ford Bronco w/302 V8 in Nov 1974. I installed a roll bar, The 3 on the tree manual column shifter was converted to a slick floor shifter with a Hurst shifter, it had manual steering, no power brakes, and drum brakes on the front instead of discs.....All a nightmare compared to todays standards, but I sure miss it. The memories of using it to go backpacking, offroading in the Sierra's and the Pismo Dunes, and skiing (its last trip being to Whistler Mtn in B.C. Canada in Feb '79) will never be forgotten. I kept it till summer of 1979 when I had purchased a friend's 1973 Chev K5 Blazer to better tow my ski boat.

Cool

In 1970 my first car was a 1959 MGA convertible:

1500 c.c.motor with dual S.U. carbs

glasspack legpipe muffler

leather interior (re-upholstered in Mexico)

oil-wetted lever-type shocks (purged of 30w and filled with STP)

through-the-bumper crank starter

flip-up side-curtain windows

12V system (2 - 6 volt batts. in series, positive ground)

mustard yellow w/ black fenders, doors, hood and trunk lid

Without a doubt, the most unreliable car I ever owned and miss it the most of all of them...

My first car was a 1964 Thunderbird, which I bought in 1974. I drove the wheels off the thing. It had a little over 60,000 miles on it when I bought it and I added about that much more.

Since then, I've had a series of used Fords ('65 Galaxy 500, '69 Mustang, '79 Mustang, '74 Pinto and a '72 LTD), a used '74 Toyota Celica ST, a new 1991 Escort (which I drove for eight years), a 1999 Honda Civic DX coupe, and a 1996 Mitsubishi 3000 GT. Current ride: 2006 Beetle hatchback, 2.5L.

First car ...

2001 Ford Focus ZX3
Name: Blizzard
Exterior Color: White ... and orange rust(?) dots. Not sure what caused those. Clay Bar didnt even take them off.
Interior: Gray cloth
Tranny: Automatic
Engine: 130 hp Ztec engine 2.0L
Power windows ...
Manual crank sunroof
16" wheels ...
Air conditioning that could cool an army in 130* weather. <--- hence the name Blizzard

But ... I hated it. Cheap parts. Hatch closed like a cubbard door - flimsy and light. Nothing compared to my Zoomer bug. Oh how I love my Zoomer bug. <3

At age 19, I got my first (of many) cars, a 10 year old 1969 Pontiac LeMans. Yellow with a black vinyl top, and a mind of it's own. It cost $450. I always had to kick the headlight back into the up position, as it always wanted to aim at the ground. If the wipers wouldn't turn on, you had to stop the car, and shove it into park, and the wipers would start working.

It was my first set of wheels, and I will always have a soft spot for it.

It looked like this, only I had wire wheel covers.

My first car was a 1983 Rabbit GTi. UniBlack, blue interior, and rotted floors. Treated me well for two years until the driver's seat almost ended up on I-95. Quick thinking by me (and the seatbelt being buckled!) saved me from a flinstones adventure.

I really wanted a 1993-99 Jetta VR6 though, and I finally got my first of 3 in 2001 for $1200 after a friend blew the motor. Fixed the motor, drove it for 6 months, and got $5200 for it.

A 1978 Pea-soup green Mercedes. The ugliest damn thing on four wheels. No pickup and go whatsoever, and smelled kind of funny. But damn did I love it.
It ended up going to some frineds of ours in Alabama years ago, and was driven into a cow. My grandfather kept it at his farm house and I was going to have it fixed into a beater/hoodride but the frame was bent and not worth fixing (would have cost too much). It's been sent to the junkyard since then.
