Default Electric Sparrow

Here's my electric Sparrow (attached). 70 mph and a range of about 24 miles. New cost of $14K. Corbin Motors made about 300 of these before they went belly up. The Corbin Sparrow isn't made any more. The company that bought the leftover parts from bankruptcy court mad a bunch of improvements and is making about 50 more of these cars for $25K each. They are at www.myersmotors.com. So it is kind of a collector's item. Jay Leno had one for a shor time and it was shown on the Tonight Show.

It's a lot of fun to drive and has a lot of zip. It always collects a crowd. Kind of like driving a one-man parade. Kids seem especially attracted to it and always yell and wave.

I use it for commuting. My commute used to be 10 miles. Now it is going to 30 miles so I am buying a 2005 GLS TDi Beetle!

It's a single person vehicle and it registers as a motorcycle.

Right on. A 2005 TDI is just as cool, but is probably more comfy, and tons safer.

So for insurance does it count as a car or a scooter or something to that sort?

You register it as a motorcycle. Low cost, but you do have to get a motorcycle endorsement to drive it.

Cool. I've seen a couple of those running around portland, it would make an excellent commuter car.

Is that the same Corbin company that makes motorcycle seats? The logo looks familiar. It's pretty neat, but I sure don't understand why it needs to be so expensive.

I remember when the Sparrow first came out, they had a HUGE introduction party at the mall across from work. Everyone seemed to say the same thing.

I thought there were very cool as well, but I thought the original prive of $14k was a bit high, so $25k is out of the question. The other issue is that I would have to find a recharging station near work because the range isn't enough to get me back home, and electric car charging stations are not common around here.

Anyway, congrats one-man parade on scoring a Sparrow. Maybe someone is working on new battery technologies to extend the range.
