I bought it in 1998, and have it since then. Its being taken care of by my brother since 2004 when I left for school.

Was originally red, then I redid the flooring, wiring and a bunch of other things and painted it burgundy, but I did not like how the color came out... so.. I painted it black.

Been through 2 engines now on the third (all older engines).. yes.. I drove it like a mad man, but this engine seems to have done the trick!

I plan to strip her down again, rebuild with new engine, transmission, suspension, rewire, disc brakes all round and a new paint job.

OK... so the time has come to do some repairs...

I NEED advice from air-coolers here. What is a reputable and relatively inexpensive store to get the many parts I need.

I really don't want to be shopping at 5 or 6 different stores. I just want 1 place and one shipping costs. Or.. if the place is in Florida I could go there.

Advice?

Pretty neat. You do have a unique one alright. They stopped making them with flat windshields late 1973 till early 1974 (they were curved afterwards), it's neat that you have it on a 75!

Yes... I know right! It also as the shock absorbing bumpers. Pretty rare to come by.

The shock absorbing bumpers weren't that rare really... they were introduced as a plus for the SuperBeetle as the McPherson struts, more trunk space and "leg room". They were mostly put on to protect the "big nose" of the hood and to make up for the lack of the heavy torsion bar.

Still they work great!

Words of advice:

If you ever feel the need to increase HP to your 1600cc engine DON'T let anyone talk you into getting 87mm cylinders and piston set (AKA Big bores) to increase it to 1650cc. it's a poor-man's upgrade that will end up messing up your engine. All they have done was take a stock 85.5 cylinder and thinned the wall so a bigger piston would fit... the trouble is that the new piston generates too much heat for the new walls to handle, causing the piston rings to break down, resulting in loss of power, loss of money and a screwed up engine.
