Default 1958 beetle from Illinois.

My 1958 beetle will be celebrating it's 50th build day on January 7, 2008. Restoration should be finished in 2008.
Great little car slow but reliable.
Photos from Fall 2007.

Looking for parts for the early beetles if you have any to sell...

Cheers,
Peter

Actually I should have been more precise in my original post.
The car was originally shipped to Import Motors in Chicago. They were a regional distributor at the time. The car is now in Mass. When it got to Mass. is anyones guess?
I can only verify records to 1990 to an owner in Rhode Island.

Anyone know my bug back in Illinos? I would love to find the original owner...

They're probably in a loony bin, you'd have to be crazy to get rid of a nice car like that

Nope and oh how I wish That name came from another entirely
different forum.

I did have a '73 for quite a number of years. Been 6 years now
that it's no longer with me

And in a few short weeks the 2001 TDI that's sitting in my
driveway, that at this moment is actually still mine until
the lein release papers show up, then I'll be Beetleless.

That's gonna be a sad sad day for me

The 58 is a beaut! The clock is awesome also! 58 the first year of the big window. Is that original paint?

Rich is a very good guy. Always full of good info too. I remember the countless trips to W.W. when I was building my 56 panel.

The only thing that comes out of Wolfsburg now is just water cooleds. The air cooleds were last made in Puebla Mexico.

Actually the car has been restored twice that I know of, back in 1990 a quick make it look pretty restoration, then I bought the car in 1999 and have been finding the missing pieces ever since. And there where alot of missing pieces after 40+ years.
The restoration is winding down with a possible complete paint job next summer.
I had the heater channel replaced on the passenger side, and same is needed on the drivers side.
Actually the car was very original when I bought it, mileage is now 93,000 but something tells me it's aleast 193,000 original shocks, wiring, heater boxes, seats, were all there. Although needed replacement. I used VW original parts when anything was replaced.
The car spors an original set of VW bumpers front and rear that came from a 1957 oval. Headlights have been restored to there original specs. inclding all the correct glass and colors.
A new wiring harness was installed although the car is still 6 volt.
Engine is a VW factory rebuilt from 1965 although you would never know it's not the original. still only 36 h.p.
The car is painted L41 black the same paint code and color that is currently on any New Beetles painted Black.
Rear door panels are original, with the seats recovered to there original colors and fabric.

I am attaching a few recent photos so you can see the details, and yes there is an original VW tool kit in the trunk.

You said you were trying to see who had the car in Illinois. I lived in the Hoffman Estates area and it's a long shot but there was a guy that did tons of Beetle work back in the late 80's and early 90's. At one time there must have been 10-12 beetles in his yard in line for work. Wish I remembered the address.......I'll give it a look see..off of Shoe Factory Rd.

Wow that is one gorgeous vintage VW. I have a 57' vert that is painted L41 black with L456 Ruby Red. They are a blast to drive.
