It is air cooled. I believe they switched to water in the 90's?
I wish it were a turbo, but it's fun just the same! I've had it for 2 years...drive it a couple of days a week and am still learning what it can do. It truly is a joy to drive....very raw, most fun experience I've ever had driving any car. Some people won't understand this, but I honestly look forward to just going out on a Sunday afternoon and driving for a couple of hours. It is addicting. I look forward to taking a picture of it with the Beetle...should be a fun shot. Winter has been dragging on here in the Midwest and I haven't driven it much lately because I really try to keep it away from the salt...but, I had to take it to work one day back in Feb. and sure enough we had a little snow fall that day....but hey, it's meant to be driven right? ![]() |

Nice Porsche!
As for the air-cooled and turbo debate, the last air-cooled Porsche was the 993 series 911, which was made until 1998. The VERY LAST air-cooled Porsche was a 1998 Mexico blue 911 Carrera 4S that was made on March 31, 2008, and was sold to Jerry Seinfeld, who has an EXTENSIVE Porsche collection. NO WAY were ALL 911s turbocharged!!! Do you have any idea how much used turbos go for these days? The 1st generation 911 Turbo, the 930, starts at about $35k and if you have a slantnose 930 Cabriolet, you're looking at $75-$100k. The second gen 911 Turbo, the 964 Turbo, aka 965, goes for about $65+. The last gen, the 993 Turbo goes for $65-100, and even more if you have one of the very rare 993 Turbo S, you're looking at even bigger bucks! So, my point is that the Turbo is a very exclusive and legendary car, being the first turbocharged passenger car (since 1974, and don't think it was the SAAB 900 Turbo), which is why they command higher prices than non-turbos. Hope that clarifies it. |

The 924, 944, 968, 928, Cayenne, and upcoming Panamera sedan are all watercooled. The 911 has been watercooled since the 996 series. The 911 based 959 supercar had watercooled heads with air-cooled cylinders. Last edited by EVZBUG; 07-18-2008 at 03:32 PM.. |

We had an 86 cabrio that had a turbo added at some point in it's life. Nice car and scary fast but the turbo kept burning (fading) the paint on the drivers side rear quarter. Too much maintenance. Sold it within a year
