No official times. Next season I want to start timing the runs. I do know that the R compounds made a huge difference once we got the pressures right, and that Pops is getting smoother, which means faster. We ran Pocono North that weekend. The SC would catch up to (and pass) the big-boys in the twisty bits, but fall behind on the straights. They have the power, but the SC is much lighter and more nimble, so we can brake later, turn later, and generally upset people with more $$$. Unfortunately, the 3.0L just didn't have the torque to pull it out of corners very quickly and it needed to be shifted a lot as a result. It shouldn't be a problem with the new engine.

As far as the new engine is concerned, we're looking at a 3.75L engine and expecting 400-425hp N/A. Put that in a 2400lb car and we're talking a better power-to-weight ratio than a 996 GT3 Cup Car.

ITB's and Haltech

A know there will be more than a few embarrassed 996 turbo drivers next season

The only concern now is that with the new power we will need more rubber and suspension, so we'll eventually go widebody and get coilovers. Also, the 915 geabox will have to make way for a G50 with an LSD, but that's for next season, or the season after.

Mike, you made me miss my friends car. My friend in Thailand whom I helped him put porsche enigine on 1974 Super Beetle has exactly same 911 as yours. He owns the garage so he has 911, 1974 and 1963 beetle and S8. I don't have the pics of them but this is his VW garage website. www.vwshowtime.com

Keep this updated. My dream car.

Flippin' sweet 911s, man. I love the sound of an old air-cooled Porsche.

Well, it's been a long while since I updated this thread...

The car did not make it out to the track this year. Hell, it didn't make it out of the shop! It tool longer than expected to get the car right, but patience is a virtue.

My Dad and I will be taking the car back soon and making a place for it in our ship/garage at work. There, we will have the room to do what we plan. What are we going to do?

Steel 930 fenders all around, RSR Bumper & fiberglass hood.

Of course, the 17x8" & 9" wheels won't work. We'll have them re-barreled to 17x9.5 & 17x11.

I've owned a few 914's, a 914-6, a 912, and a 356B Diettren Roadster, but never a 911. And I'd take my NB over any of them. Of course I wouldn't have when I was younger!

Don't know how I ever missed this thread!

Is it orange yet? I actually like it the way it is. I always like it when the older uglier (to some people) car beats the shiny new ones.

It is not orange, and it probably won't end up orange. Now, we're aiming for white with black "Carrera", but everything is subject to change for no reason.

Essentially, we're building a Carrera 3.0 RS look-alike

Oh, and it got 365whp on the dyno before it was fully tuned. That workes out to about 415hp at the crank. The car weighs a little over 2400lbs. Do the math

Your bug sounds like it's no slouch in the speed department

But, the Porsche is geared L-O-N-G. Honestly, we think it is geared too long for the shorter tracks we visit. It would be good for Watkins Glen, but we don't get there often. So, maybe next year we'll do a G50 gearbox with custom gears. Right now, the 915 will have to hold one for one more season

^^^^^^
Funny you should ask.....

about a month ago, we got the SC into our garage at work. There, we have begun a new project:

We are installing turbo rear flares and turbo front fenders on 'er.

4/25/09

5/9/09

The drivers side is ready to be welded up. The passenger side is in place, but the SC fender still needs to be cut out. Bumper brackets must be fabricated, as well as be trimmed for the exhaust. The front end is much easier, because all we do is unbolt the SC fenders and install the Turbo fenders, as well as a new front bumper.

Our Kodiak wheels will be modified. The 9" rear wheels with 255-40-17 tires will move up front, and we will add a new outer rim to the old 8" front wheel to make an 11" rear, with a massive 315-35-17 tire. After all, the car DID dyno at 365 at the WHEELS.

3.8L, 52mm ITB's, 10.2 to 1 compression, 8600rpm redline, etc etc etc.

So...that's what we've been up to. We've been up to no good

some welding pics from 2 weeks ago.

Welds are all smooth now, and ready for bodywork on that side. This week, we will tackle the passenger side rear fender and get that ready for bodywork.

1st coat of filler on the drivers side

Now, to the passenger side. This side went much smoother than the drivers side, and will require less bodywork.

Cutting. You can see how we made the cut pretty clearly in this picture

Fitting. We used the handle of a wire brush to push the 930 flare into place and get it as flush with the original metal as possible.

Tack-welding.

and ground.

The idea is to cut a few inches, then tack it into place. Repeat until you get to the end. Then, you can weld the fender up and grind the welds.

Passenger side also has a coat of filler on it. The filler we are using is a metal reinforced filler (think of is as a more workable JB Weld).

And there you have it. So far, so good. Lots more work to do, but at least the welding is finished.
