I plan on ditching the stock injection system and bolting up a set of dellortos (once I can find them). It should be a fun project.

Sounds like you already have some plans.
I've looked at getting either a 914 or 928. I think the 928 would be a kick in the arse.

I found a 914 in Bullhead they only want 200 for it. It has no motor or tranny, but that would be easy to as it's all vw running gear.

It shouldn't take to much to get the 924 on the road though.

Bullhead City? That would make a great excuse to go to Laughlin. The 914 could be a nice toy. Owning a 72 standard really lets you understand how simple and reliable an air-cooled VW is.
I will be following your 924 build for sure.

Now wait just a minute.... do you have a 928 or 924?

j/k

I would love to have either, though. Or maybe a 914. Anything but a 911... it's too cliche.

924... I'm still getting used to the number thing.

I'm trying to sell off some of the un-used toys/stuff to pick up the carbs, and payoff some other project debt also.

924's are great cars. The front suspension is right off of a Super Beetle (simple in a good way), and they are well balanced machines. 4-speed or 5-speed?

And give it a compound and wax!

Friend, have you ever driven or owned a 911? There is a reason why they say that "there is no substitute".

It's a 4 speed. Funny thing about the paint is the drivers side looks almost pristine, but the roof, hood and passenger side are heavily oxidized. I should have the carbs by the middle of next month. That's when the fun will start.

And then there was water...those are cool cars!
My ex-girlfriend's father was in the pit crew that raced 924's for Team Porsche back in the 80's.
He had a dyno in his garage and they tuned the racecar's there.
Hope you enjoy it!

I've been slowly working on the car. Today I have made some progress. I managed to get the fenders off (what a PITA!), some more electrical stuff weeded out, and some more non-essential components off. The carbs are waiting the rebuild I have one kit, but need another.

Most of the factory injection items removed.

This is what was in the fender well. Just as much on the other side also.

Another engine shot. Injector plugs already installed.

Yep. My dad and I restored a 73 911T Targa about... 6 years ago or so. There's no denying that it's a hell of a car, just not for everyone. I prefer my cars to be a little different, hence why I drive a Bug.

Looks good so far, Danny! I've always been curious as to what it would take to convert from fuel injection to carburetors. Is it just a kit that you bought, or are you putting it all together?

I'm putting everything together from various sources. Trying my best to keep things on a budget, so far so good.
