Hey.
Small update. Thanks to a great deal of help from Matt and GermanAutoParts, the audi got a new starter installed this weekend. Isn't it so pretty against all that quarter century of rust and grime?

Well, i was chasing down some exhaust rattles and leak sounds and I found this 25 year old beauty of pipe work.
$26 from the dealer for a new clamp (i bought a napa one first, but ti wasn't big enough) It's also nice to see that after un-doing the old one that my exhaust was held on with only 2 of the 5 exhaust hangers. So on a return trip to napa I picked up 3 more hangers and put them on too. So now my exhaust is alot quieter and is tucked so much better now. I just wonder how long those original hangers were snapped. all the weight of the exhaust is really centered on that center clamp. |

Well one day, maybe the clean parts will outnumber the rusted ones!

![]() When it rains, it pours!! The past few days, the driver's door has been opening kinda hard. Today, I went to see if i could adjust it a little, and the lever mechanism inside snapped in half!!! So a quick trip to pull-a-part and i had a working handle to swap. And it was recently replaced on the junkyard car with a aftermarket one too, so it was like new and built beefier!!! But it wasn't that easy!! I tried swapping the lock cylinders, and the original one was just a little wider, so it wouldn't fit in the new handle. Oh joy of joys. So i disassembled both of them, and used the original lock cylinder and inner metal frame. Then put both of them in the new handle, and added the rest of the new hardware!! It was truly much more of a pain in the ass. But it was worth it in the end. I don have any in progress pictures, as usual, but here's some carnage and finished pics. Now, the passenger side one will probably break like that too. Only time will tell. |
