ok. pics to come by june 12. I wont be able to work on it myself for a while but the friend im buying it from and some of the other guys in our club will be working on it. june 12 is the deadline for floorpans patches, brake lines, and doors to be done so I can take it to Eurowerks 4 in minneapolis, mn, and the rest is slated to be done by august 6 for dubs in the valley in oshkosh, wi.

dreamlist for next year-
air bag suspesnion
idi turbo conversion

ok, so the car will not be ready by june 12 for euro works because of the mechanical work that it does need, and the lack of registration. but when I get the doors on, I will post some pics.

on friday I recieved a new-ish alternator.

basically the only difference would be a swallowtail specific color. next year I may do a swallowtail hood because the lines are different than an 82. I'm also planning on converting the front core support to the round headlights, preferably quads.

oh and dream list mod
ixnay on the air bags..this is a budget build so lets go with some budget coilovers from blackforest.com for next year

yes I know, still no pictures. I'll take some tonight at my weekly club meeting. I started driving it yesterday and even with bad tires and ball joints in the beggining stages of failing, it drives great.

Nice seeing another Mk1 diesel running around! We got ourselves an '84 Jetta TD (factory!) for a project. Probably in for an engine rebuild this summer. They are definitely fun cars!

Definitely a project! Looks like the body is pretty straight though. Hows the rust situation? Here's my Mk1 project: Smileybug's Mk1 Its slow going, but he's an awesome car already.

Make sure you check out vwdiesel.net if you haven't already. Great resource for Mk1 diesels. The Mk1 vortex forum is also pretty good.

the rust is being held at bay. when it was first recieved by my friend who I bought it from, he had to weld on floor board patches on the drivers side. drives beutifully. I may be crazy, but I am leaving for a 4 hour (192 mile) road trip as soon as my shirts get out of the drier.

I don't think I'd do that on ours just yet...and we've put a lot of work into it! We want to make H2O this year with it though.

Good luck, and make sure you carry tools in the trunk

Do you have the Bentley yet for it?

no bentley but I have a vw mechanic and a few knowledgeable friends on speed dial. the tool kit never leaves the car (I should hide it in the trunk though seeing as it is a 188 peice craftsman set.) The only part that scares me are the tires. I may have a spare, but I could use another one...

Pick up a Bentley. They have the diesel specific one and its super helpful. We have our fair share of VW mechanics and Mk1 nuts around, but there is still no substitute for the Bentley.
