Arrow PASSAT: The Nice Car That Picks You Up When Your Beetle Breaks Down!

Now that I have Your Attention! Where to Start... I am a happy '03 Passat 1.8T 5spd. Wagon Owner and '02 1.9 TDI 5spd. NB Co-Pilot at times. I help maintain both. The NB is MichelleRoze's Probie (which makes it into the photos) and mine is the Passat which is nameless as of yet. A blank canvas, since I have yet to customize anything except for Audi Rims and a Wetterhauer Chip. I am starting this thread to show the progression of my VW and to entertain ideas and suggestions for ways to improve it. Though I will be difficult to convince if the modification suggested is overly wild, I welcome them anyway...who knows? Enjoy one of the few manual transmission,

Aww glad to see you finally have a picture thread for the Passat. Now we just need a name. Come on ya'll, lets think of a name for this sweet girl. She's been good while Probie has been down....

We drove to Ann Arbor, Michigan to pick her up in...January I do believe. That was a fun little drive! A 5spd wagon is kinda one of a kind, so I think she needs a name that's one of a kind too. Where's my creative thinkers!?

Hey Matt! Its charlie! Beetle charlie not Tdi charlie

Nice passat!!! Just make sure you keep up with maintenance, picture requests, and info requests to help a certain someone convince his dad to trade a 9mpg (on a good day with a tailwind) Expedition for one and we shouldn't have any problems!

First thing i'd vote for you to do would be window tints!! That a LOT of greenhouse!! Plus with those black seats and i KNOW that summer heat is getting to you up there!

Hey Matt. No suggestions, but from a multiple Passat owner, they're really nice rides with a practical yet sporty attitude. I say coilovers and 19" Audi A8's or TSW Holstens to start with, but that's me And I guess those were suggestions afterall.

What does everyone think about these Audi rims as an upgrade to
the ones I already have? They are 17" TT rims I am told.

Hi SixChuter! Yes. After driving many different VW engine combinations, the 1.8T was the most pep for the least maintenance dollars. I was tempted by the V6 but I wanted significantly better gas mileage than my old Jeep and the T Belt on those is crazy expensive. I was also looking at VR6 Jettas and though they were a good bit faster stock than my Passat, I wasn't about to get into expensive timing chain problems. SO when I found a chipped 5spd. 1.8T Wagon, it was the best of all worlds for me. Especially since it was in such great shape.

I really like 5 spoke wheels and those look good. I'd vote yes for the change.

I'd say you made a good choice. Who could ask for more. A nice clean wagon with an engine that will give you a rush and those luscious seats.

I'm sticking with a drop and 19's. Anything less tells people, you really aren't serious

LOL Gary. I figured you'd say that. Perhaps those people would like to finance the tires for those 19s Probably going to be a while before I go lower anyway, just not that high on my list. Need tint, a new drivers side homelink visor, rear tailights, chrome roof rack rails and chrome cross member rails (A4), a euro switch, front and rear bumpers repainted with a new rear bumper with (2) molded in fog lamps, and an A4 auto- dimming rear view mirror with compass. I was thinking all of that plus the 17" TT Rims would tell most people I'm serious. But I hear ya...

Two of those you pictured have Audi wheels. 2nd pic is Audi A8's and the last two tone wagoon are either old style A8 monobloks or TSW Holstens
Rubber is rubber when it comes to replacing them. Not really a whole lot more per tire, 17 VS 19

I realize I pictured alot of 19+ Audi rims...doesn't mean I can afford any of those rims at this point. That are just inspirations of what ideal might look like. And as far as the 17" to 19" difference, its a big enough difference for me. The 17-inch ones I photoshopped onto my car early by comparison would only cost me $400 for rims and tires in mint condition which is about a third of the cost of doing A8 rims and tires heavily abused. I gotta get a better job to keep up with you Mang

Damn! The man knows what he needs! And in priority/price order! Car is really nice, in great shape. Interior condition says it all. I will have to say I'm wit Gary on this one, go BIG! I say leave the teenager's alone as well though. We know I prefer them at least the legal limit & above. But then again, I also force them in places where they wouldn't normally be as well so. When the time comes for those new shuz I know whatever you pick will be right on! I know you have incredible taste and sense of quality. Only a matter of time! I plan on shooting back up that way pretty soon, but gonna holla at Al & get all the neighbors involved. Hope to see ya soon...

Thanks for the response man. I have put just a little thought into it already but I am grateful for input from everyone. The Big Rims will have to go along with the 2 inch drop I have planned for later on, one really needs to go with the other on a wagon. The only droppin I am doing right now is with BASS, but thats another story. Tint will happen very soon and tailights to follow, may go LED on those I am thinking. Also thinking today I might do the euro Passat front bottom bumper piece at some point and a Stage 3 Wetterhauer Chip to make sure I can still Pass almost anyone before they know it Looking forward to seeing you and Eggy "No Donk" as well, drag Al and company up here 2!

In all honesty....I really like the two tone Passat. Those wheels look awesome. Something about thick wheels on a wagon does it! I think there is someone local on the vortex who has those. I'm gonna go peek!
