Default '66 Mustang and '64 Comet Caliente

If you've seen me around/my posts, you're probably wondering about my cars. I'm a bit young, but thanks to deceased uncles, I've acquired these. They're my world, and the only one's who have stuck around for years without breaking my heart. Questions or comments appreciated, enjoy!

'66 Ford Mustang Coupe V6 (ALL ORIGINAL)

'64 Mercury Comet Caliente V6 (currently a project)

Oh! And my birthday present!

Sweet pony!

Point of correction though: Those are both I-6 engines, not V6. All 6 cylinders are in a straight line (inline), not in a V pattern.

True! Whenever you go for parts though, it's always a "V6". Just trained to ear, I suppose!

Love that old 'Stang, I hope you keep it garaged--there's some real value there, not sure about the Comet since it's a 4 door, but it's very cool Lucky girl!

If you ever have any questions on the Fords, I'm your guy. I've had alot of fords with the 200 6 cyl with the "3 on the tree" or does the comet have a 170? Great motors, not a whole lot of power but very dependable. Oh and IMO 4 doors are just as good as 2! Nice lil collection you got goin on!

True, more family friendly and may be better for daily use, but you can't deny that 2 door version(s) are more collectible and valuable.

It's a three on the tree! Haha. These cars are both garaged, for sure. Chrome makes me wild. The Comet is having hers dipped before a paint job.

As for classic car value, the value goes up for two-doors only (usually) if it's a fastback. Four doors is just so much easier.

I hate to disagree w/ someone so cute , but try looking at some online classic car value sites--there's one at nada.com among others. You'll find that if your Caliente had 2 fewer doors it'd be worth about 25% more. Not knocking it at all it would be a sweet "sleeper" with a granny blue paint job and a big V8 transplant. No current Camaro, Challenger, or Mustang owner would see that coming!

I've been busy for the last 3 years on a 4 dr galaxie. Someday soon i'll start a thread for it. I can't wait to see how "hot" the Caliente turns out. What color?

Yes. It's the original engine. It won't shift into third gear, after having the transmission rebuilt in it three years ago (talking about the Comet Caliente here). Distributor shorted out, again, and there's a short in the engine (easy fix). Gonna have that all looked at, along with the shocks. Doesn't feel safe to drive, the back has sunken really low. Just gonna get a ballpark estimate before I continue moving forward. :\

theres an alignment hole on the shift linkage that needs adjusting every so often on those. If I remember right there are 2 shift linkages and if not adjusted right, they "fight each other and try to go into 2 gears at the same time. It's really an easy fix. I hope thats the case this time. Whoever works on it, have them check that first. Good luck and let me know what you find.

Def not linkage problem. Maybe vacuum line from carb? I rebuilt it keeping it in passing gear. Its a 2 speed fordomatic or mercomatic.

Awesome stable of vehicles you have there!

The original Mustang is my DREAM car! (where is that "faint" smiley?)

Speaking of the Mustang. Are you sure it's a 66? It does not have the horizontal chrome pieces? (see pic for what I mean) I may be wrong, but I see it as a 65.

Love the 'Stang! The comet is pretty cool too. Seeing your comet reminds me of this '61 Falcon 2-door that's for sale here in Jacksonville. I'm pretty much a Chevy guy, but I've always loved the 61 Falcon 2-door, as well as the FirstGen Mustang. Guess you can kinda sorta call the Falcon the FirstGen, being that it paved the way for the Stang. Anyhoo, I'm babbling... Great collection of cars you have- I hope you hold on to em

Yes, I inherited this quite a bit ago. Still have the original manual and paperwork. The difference you are pointing out---- I have a coupe. You're showing a fastback. They have different chrome pieces. Didn't think about it until now.

Oh I'll be keeping my classics until I'm dead. Stang is valued at about $18,000

!!!! Holy crap! I've always wanted to buy my dad a Mustang. When he was in college (86 or so), he had a 68 Fastback GT that he LOVED but had to sell. I REALLY REALLY want to find one for him, but I doubt I'll be able to afford it unless the bottom falls out of the market for them again.

Doesn't look like it, then again I'm posting from a phone. But regardless, she's a '66. Maybe that's a coupe with the pony package? Oh well.

Yeah, these 'name' cars go for a lot, usually because of original this and that. Mine is completely original with factory paint (you can even see the paint stamp under the hood from the factory). I doubt the car market is going to bottom out any time soon.
