Default Deserion's Porsche Boxster

I picked up this Seal Gray 2004 over the weekend. I still can't believe it's mine, as I've wanted one for over 13 years now. The car is in immaculate condition, and has the options I want. It's a base model, with the 2.7L flat-six mated to the 5-speed manual. Quite honestly, with as fast as this car is, I wonder how much quicker the S trim is. It's just brilliant.

I didn't take the photos, but it's my exact car.

Congratulations! Yes it's quick! The S is a whole lot quicker yet. Not even similar! Been there, done that! And the S on a track!

But the tiptronic is the cats meow! Nothing like the NB. Will do anything a stick will, just a whole lot faster! Just don't like it on the steering wheel.

Again, Congrats, and have fun, but damn, BE CAREFUL! Probably the only car I have ever had that I saw where I could easily kill myself! For real!

Why's the key on the left? That's bizarre. Are they all like that?

Yep, ALL Porsche models that have ever been made have the ignition switch located on the dash to the left of the steering wheel.

This dates back to the early days of Porsche racing. When drivers got into their cars to start a race, the ignition switch on the left gave them an advantage because they could start the car with their left hand and shift into gear with the right. most other drivers had to start with their right hand first then shift into gear.
The key has been located there ever since.

Porsche installs their key on the left on all their vehicles. Similar to the effect of Saab having all their key holes where our emergency brakes are located.

Porsche does this because they are a drivers car. It is to their belief that they have their drivers ready to go as soon as possible with each appendage. 1 hand on the key, the other on the gearshift, one foot on the clutch, and the other on the brake/gas!

Get with the program

the older Karman Ghias had the key on the left side of the wheel,
even some of the older american cars up till mid 50s? maybe , had the key there as well , My old studebaker has the key on the driver side near the door originally but for some odd reason the PO moved it to the right side of the wheel

I think American automakers felt the need to move the key to the right side to accomodate women helping out with the driving from the passenger seat!

Thanks, everyone!

Installed the 996 GT3 console delete the other night. Really improves legroom, I think. Sorry for the crappy pic, light was going down.
