Default The Cheat's 1984 MK1 GTi

OK, so I picked up this 1984 GTi today for $500. Has 177k on it, runs and drives excellent. Has a few minor niggling problems like Corrado seats (so therefore the seatbelts from the GTi don't work...leaving the driver with no seatbelt and the passenger with a lap belt only), some minor cancer up top, an off-track sunroof, and is in need of a serious cleaning.

However, in spite of all this, the car runs like a top and made it back from Philly with no problems. Runs a bit hot in traffic, but that could be a fan issue. This is my new daily driver, and summer will be kind to it.

Here's the pics from the forsale thread on the vortex:

Way cool! Being a former MK1 man myself, I think you may have a little bit of air in the cooling system. My MK1 always ran a little bit hot until I purged the air...Those are sooo much fun to drive, and $500 was a decent price!

Far out. As I owned a couple of RABBITS back in the day, I have loads of love for them, the GTi.

My 1975 Rabbit lasted so long; I had this hole in the pan I could stick both feet out, like Fred Flintstone. It was a car that you could not kill, really.

Hope it runs well for you. DO you plan on any mods?

Former 2005 TDI? Is she gone?

I hope you can bring the GTI back to life. Good luck to you.

Looks like a good project car. Easy to work on, plenty of cheap parts. Have fun with it.

Dawn- Yes I am!
Chris- Will check that out.
TJ- I plan on going OEM+ (modded but not really).
Deb- By April 8th...it's tough being a single dad (to a car) and going to school, so I found her a good home.
Trey- you know it.
Spiru- fun isn't the word...I'm going out on a limb and saying that it's going to be fanflippingtabulous.

Bought the dash bezel off eBay ($10 shipped!), and am sourcing black seatbelts and better carpet as we speak.

Luckily you found something you'll enjoy and be able to live with financially. That's always a good thing!

Do a dual round badgeless grille, and it will be a smoking hot GTI.

The one and only, the original FAST.

Looks to be in decent shape.
$500 is a great price.
I can remember wanting those rims so bad when I was 16 and had my first rabbit.

Keep us posted.

Hmm , I think i still have a NOS core support set up for the round headlights . I bought it like 6 years ago from rockymountain motorworks for my Rabbit pickup but never used it .If you decide to do the conversion let me know ..
