Default Juggbug's Lil V-dubbers Project Super Beetle

Baldy found this 1971 Super Beetle last week at a local junkyard and scooped it up for $300. He is going to start restoring it for my son. Mind you, my son is only 10 now, so they have 6 years to finish! lol

Hi Amanda!

It also had rat turds in the trunk! We paid extra for those though! LOL

tell your son I am very very jealous. When I was 13 I wanted my dad to get a junker 70s beetle and have it be out project car. Dad didn't have time, nor believed in the "tin can death traps" ... now he drives my 73 every single day to work, and he loves these cars like I do! Alls well that ends well!

But.. take your time. It's a VERY simple car to work on, and be sure to do something fun and custom to it! Have fun and I can't wait to see more pics of it as it comes along! Does it run right now or does it have unknown problems preventing it from starting?

Im jealous too!!
That's so awesome Aura! Get em hooked early! Thats the way to go. And I'm sure he'll be learning while your hubby restores which is also very cool. They're going to have lots of nice memories from the experience! I hung out more with my dad than I did with my mom when I was growing up and I was witness to many an air cooled resto. Mind you I didnt really learn anything because I wasnt allowed to "get in the way" I guess at the time my dad didnt realize I was as interested as I was. I think he thought I was just trying to be a nudge. I dont blame him. How many little girls really give a crap about restoring old cars?
So it looks like there are fun times (and probably a couple of frustrating times but thats a given when doing stuff like this)ahead for your hubby and your son! Theyre going to have so much fun and Im majorly jealous

Wow! More pics! And you know, even at that stage, if you wash/clay bar/wax, you will be inspired to do more. I bought a '73 Bug once for $50 and turned it into a show car.

My son started begging us for a Karmann Ghia when he was about 13. He would read the classifieds every morning and report on the KGs. So after he learned to drive, I found him one and he was in heaven. He learned to do routine maintenance, as well as a lot of stuff that goes with a 30+ yr old car. And he learned to do body work after he backed his mom's car into the Ghia.

He wrecked it, but he still pines for it and he still helps his friends when they have minor car probs. It was definitely worthwhile.

Default Thanks you guys!

Thanks you guys! I'm gonna let my son Yul read all these posts when he gets home from school today! He's so excited to be starting this project with dad and my daughter Weezer is going to be helping as much as possible too. It's funny too because my son already has the whole car sketched out with what he wants it to look like when their done...even down the wheels he wants! LOL I thought that was pretty cute....

We had to have it towed here because there were no keys for it. But this weekend we are taking off the ignition cyllinder and having keys made. Hopefully it will at least start, but if not, they are going to do their best to get it going over the next 2 weekends

Amy I know what you mean about hangin' out with dad in the garage! I did the same thing working on old Ford trucks with my dad and I always remember what a great time we had. I got lucky because I came 6 years before my brother and when he was old enough to help dad with project trucks, he wasn't interested in anything else but sports. Good for me! I kept my rightful place in the garage! LOL

So I guess that we are raising them up right! Little v-dubbers all the way! LOL

That's awesome!

My stepdad and I brought a 1983 Rabbit GTi back from the dead when I was about 14 (1998). We spent many hundreds of hours on that car, leaving no detail spared. I may not have the car anymore, but my stepdad and I got really close because of it.

So I say let them run wild!

You lucky girl
From the pics looks like all the major parts are there, and it doesn't look otherwise crunched, bent or rusty

Default It's got a name! BUGHOLE! LOL

My son is jazzed to be reading all your posts! The boys worked on it today and found that it might be the original paint. They were VERY EXCITED!! They cleaned it up some more and changed the wheels out to hubby's old Ghia wheels/rims and it looks so much better! But my son informed me and hubby that he's eventually got to have Porsche wheels for BUGHOLE, so we told him to get a job! LOL

What a great project for your hubby and son.

It looks like the same color my '69 bug was. Cool!

Post pics of the new wheels!
