Angry Electric Windows

Just picked up my 2006 TDi from the dealership, after checking it out first very very carefully....
On the way home, noticed that the passenger side window faulty (already! ) and won't go to the top. It gets about 10cm from the top, and then rolls down again. With some persistance, it finally goes up. Feeling a bit disheartened - wish I'd found this site and all the niggly faults associated with the beetle before I signed up for one!

I would guess that the window is binding in the frame as it nears closing. It sounds like you are describing the anti-pinch automatic rolldown feature.

Is that a big deal to fix? (obviously it is under warranty, but just annoying - you spend that much on a car, you want it to work!)The dealer said it will take about an hour, hour and a half to fix (he's giving me a loan car so I can take my 2 year old to the shopping centre while I wait), but I hope it's not a reoccuring problem......

Mine had this same problem.

Go out and buy a simple can of silicone spray. (with the little straw) then just give it a quick squirt up the window channels on each side.

It's poorly lubed at the factory, and is a tight fit being so new. You will also notice that the windows go up much quicker.

My passenger side still does it once in a while, but ever since the dealer sprayed the driver side, it's worked like a champ.

Don't go to VW for the silicone. Silicone spray is the same everywhere. Walmart will do just fine.

It happens because the pinch protector senses too much friction and sends the window back down.

Thanks for your help.... I'm wondering why the dealer would say it takes an hour to fix....? Oh well, their problem seeing it's under warranty still! I will keep that in mind though - thanks again!
