Question Missing warning tones & cluster lights?

I recently purchased an 01 NB TDI / 5 spd / 145k.

I have no warning tones. (headlights, seatbelt, etc.) The cruise works properly, but I have no "CRUISE" light. After searching the forums and looking at the fuse guide, it doesn't appear that this is a blown fuse problem. The interior lights work correctly, and I haven't noticed any other related issues.

Instrument cluster, microswitch in door, or something else? How can I tell, or where should I begin?

Thanks.

Default Previous owner

I'll start with a VAG-COM check, but based on discussions with the previous owner when I bought the car, I seriously doubt he would have altered any settings. He had been driving the car for some period of time with a bad MAF - he was quite the relaxed older gentleman. The car topped out at 62 mph when I bought it, and was seriously underpowered. I had Autozone check the OBD to determine the problem. Quick fix and MUCH improvement (first by just unplugging the MAF, even more upon replacement)!

Thanks.

I believe that the 2002 year was the first year to actually have a cruise control light in the cluster.

Usually when the warning chime/door open chime stops, it would need the instrument cluster to be replaced (to get that operational again). That's just due to the integration of that item.

However, that would only really be true if the interior lights do come on when you open the driver's door. If the interior stays dark, then it'd only be a microswitch.

Default Cruise light

I can see on the left side of the speedometer the CRUISE light location, but it never lights up. Thanks for all the suggestions, guys.

After reading this thread I am wondering, is it possible to turn off the seatbelt indicator???? In my 04 NBC that is the most annoying thing in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 2000 has the location for it as well, and also doesn't light. Funny thing is that it was supposed to be a "new" thing for 2000... even it's in the manual. Just didn't make it in until 2002.

I have a 2001 and it's on its 3rd instrument cluster. They were replaced because the warning beeps quit beeping.

As for the cruise light, Des is correct, it will never light up
