Default Rear fog light question

I have a question about the rear fog light that seems to maybe be only an assumption by me.

I've been told that painting the reverse light with clear red paint is just as good as having a real one (but alot cheaper). I thought that the rear fog light lens itself was aimed differntly. Is the actual aiming of the inside lens differnt than the reverse lights? Or is it the same exact thing with a red exterior lens instead of a clear one. Also does it use the same bulb?

Aimed the same. Bulb the same. Exact same thing, only with red plastic rather than clear.

I haven't seen a painted one close up yet, so I can't comment on the looks or light output from it.

Cheers!

From what I could tell, there isn't a difference other than the lens color. You could also keep the lens white but run a red LED bulb instead. At one time the red rear fog lens was hard to get in the US so I ran it like that until I could get a red lens. One thing I did notice is that unless it's really dark, the LED would shine pink.

I thought about painting mine with clear red paint but I couldn't find any and I was afraid it would come out pink. You can use the same bulb as the reverse light.
