Default New CD head unit?

OK so I took my NBC to the dealer and told them that the passenger side front dash speaker crackles occasionally...their answer is to replace the whole head unit.

The dealer is going to replace the head-unit and I was wondering if anyone had their dealer replace the cassette head unit with the cd head unit (under warrantee)?

Seems like if they replace it with the cassette unit would be a three year old unit, since all the newer (2004.5+) NB have CD head units.

Question is: will it do any good to complain to VWOA about this?

You have obviously never had a gripe with VWoA.... Sorry while I take a minute to wipe the tears from my eyes from laughter.

It is the correct solution. It took VW Australia dealers 12 shots to fix my crackly speaker, and replacing the head unit did the trick.

Generally, under warrantee, you can only get your existing bad replaced with the same unit. So if you have tape today, you'll have tape tomorrow.

Just seems like they would be using a three year old part though...I'm sure they aren't still manufacturing a Cassette player (why they put one in a 2004 car in the first place mystified us all)

Default Replaced HU with aftermarket....

My '98 nb with 400,000 kms on car, head unit finally died completely.

Long long long off warranty. Dealership replacement for cassette unit is approx $350, CD unit is $500.

Decided to go aftermarket, selected a JVC HU with usb port on the front that plays .mp3 or .wma files off pen drive, or music or .mp3 or .wma off cd/cdr. Cost was $220 cdn with install plate and harness. Did the install myself, it was plug-n-play with the provided harness.

The result is excellent; much better FM reception than stock; fully functional playback off usb pen-drive; 100 + tracks in mp3 format on a CD. Now there is no need for that trunkmount stacker.

Bonus - the night lighting matches the NB.
