Default Power Steering Fluid Tank

First off, I need to make sure if I have identified the right tank (duh, I know !) I read on another post which says it's the one with the green cap, but green cap is nowhere to be found under my hood. So I looked at some pix of others' car and saw this one (I have to borrow from FineExampl, hope he's okay with it)

If that tank next to the battery indeed is the power steering fluid tank, the second question is how do we know if there's a leak? When I checked, the fluid level is at the level where you can hardly see from the outside, so very low, and the original signal to this checking was the moaning from the steering wheels on turns. Should I just fill it up and it's done with or is this signal to some leak? I noticed there's no fluid on the ground after leaving or anything like that.

I've troubled with these litle things that I find days after days with this car after 1 month owning it. So please don't tell me I need to change the power steering pump, or some PITA things. (If you really have to, pls say something inexpensive) J/K. I'm looking to hear some news !

Default Power steering reservoir/checking.

The power steering reservoir is indeed the green capped container to the left of the battery box. To check unscrew green cap completely, remove and wipe dip-stick clean. Replace into reservoir and tighten the green top completely. It doesn't have to be real tight. Remove it again and note fluid level on the dipstick. there is a small area that marks the fluid level as either high or low. The perfect level should be anywhere inside the marked area. If engine is hot, level will be further to the top of the marked area. If it's cold, the fluid should only hit the lowest area of the marked area. Use only VW hydraulic fluid!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pick some up at VW parts if the measurement is too low. If it is too high, try and siphon the extra out until level is normal. If you have a VW dealer close by, just drop by during hours of business and ask the drive way attendant to show you where it is and if there is enough fluid. Some moaning is normal, but has any garage or gas station added any power steering fluid to your car????? If so, it is the wrong kind and can cause serious aeration problems along with premature wear of seals, bushings, etc. Only use Genuine VW parts and fluids only!!!!! Turbomania
