Default Good dealer in Chicagoland

We have a 2004 convertible that we have had into one of the dealers here in Chicago several times for the same problems over and over:

1) Airbag light keeps coming on (open issue) (has been to the dealer 3 times for this specific issue)
2) Top doesn't always go all the way down (open issue) (has been to the dealer 1 time for this specific issue)
3) Gas guage/tank issues (which I think might be finally resolved) (has been in 5 or 6 times for this specific issue)

We have been very unhappy that we have to continue taking the car in for the same repairs. I'm not here to bad mouth the dealer, I'm just trying to find a good one.

Anyone know of a good VW wrench here in Chicago? (I'm in the city, but would be willing to drive for a good wrench)

Thanks,

Mark

I had a few wonderfull mechanics in Crystal Lake back in the late nineties, and it was always worth the drive for their service, but I don't want to send you there if the business has "changed" (I lived in Chicago until 2000) You can give them a call and speak with their service manager and see what you feel when speaking with the service manger... I believe the name was Anderson VW. I had a couple guys that always did a great job with my jetta.

But Crystal Lake is a PITA drive, so maybe someone else will post with a more local mechanic (my guys at that dealership might not be there anymore )

Ellen, do you go to a dealer/mechanic for any issues that arise, I think you and your husband do your own work... argh, she is in Chicagoland.

I have been to Pugi and Autobarn. I like Pugi better. They are on Ogden east of 355. They do nice work and the prices are usually better than the Autobarn . I was going to the autobarn for a while only because they are so much closer to home. Other than that it's Mac's garage (the hubby).Good luck!

I had to have a rim replaced at Autobarn, lets just say I went in a pot hole the size of my jetta and I was down the street from them (the jetta was only a few thousand miles old ) Anyways, it was an arm and a leg for the rim, tire and balancing etc, and the labor was much more then I was used to (this was in 1998 though) Anyways, I wasnt amazed with them, because I kept driving out further for my other regular services.

I would trust Ellens opinion

Anderson Volkswagen in Crystal Lake would be your best bet. The service guys are awesome, and they'll even get your car in the same day you call. I just bought my NB there 3 months ago, and its working out great.

I have never gone to anderson for anything other than the car show. They do put on a great show. I don't know where photocopy is and Anderson might be too hard to get to.

Thats good to hear about Anderson. I drove ALL the way out to Crystal Lake to order my VR6 Jetta, and not only was a pleased with the sales staff... but I was really pleased with their service. Its the drive out there thats a real pain in the

I am glad to hear from another member that Anderson has "kept" up their service.

Yeah, I've bought two cars there now, they have always taken care of me there. I lived in Crystal Lake, so it wasnt that much of a pain for me. Im in Kansas now, and Steven's Volkswagen here in Wichita SUCKS!! I called two weeks ago to get a wheel bearing fixed and they told me that I couldn't bring it in until the 28th! So I'm going to wait on it until I go back to CL at the end of the month to have Anderson fix it... I'll give them the business since the Wichita dealer doesn't want it!

Pugi is fantastic. It's the best dealership experience I have ever had. I researched online and they had the best rating in the area for good reason.

Highly recommended. I only wish they would service my Chrysler Town and Country.
