I only have a valet key - how do I get a master?

I just bought my tdi beetle used, and there is only one key (I assume valet since it is key only with no remote and will not work on the hatch or glove box). Can the dealer make me a new key with my VIN number maybe? What are my options?

what did the previous owner say about the regular keys? if he can't find them be prepared to shell out $150-250 for new one

Your NB came new with two master (switchblade) remote keys, and one valet key. The switchblade keys are cool, and expensive. Also, better than the valet, which, depending on your NB model year, won't open the trunk, lock your glovebox (thus the reason it's called valet key), and will not open and lock remotely.

You can get blanks from eBay, but give up the thought about it being cheap. It will then need to be programmed, at another charge.

Can you contact the seller regarding the keys? It might be worth it.

the previous owner said she lost them while rafting or something... I know the key will cost a lot from the dealer and I will most likely try to get a blank from ebay if I can, but my main question was if the dealer has a way to make a master since they cannot just copy the valet key as they are cut different. can they look it up with my vin maybe?

the dealer can make you a master...it's going to be $200+ (thats how it is here...) because they are laser cut keys
